Strider- NES or Genesis?

by graffix_13 Tue Jun 18, 2013 8:35 am

I decided I'm going to start looking for a copy of Strider, as I remember that game being pretty fun (but hard) on the NES. However, I also know that is a Genesis version and was wondering which version, NES or Genesis, was superior?

I plan on picking up the NES version for sure, but if the Genesis version is good too I'll pick that up as well.

Two entirely different games and experiences.

Really? How so? What game was more "fun"? I know it's totally subjective.

Was the Genesis version harder/easier?

I see they made a Strider 2 for the Playstation 1. It looks to be rather pricey too...

Strider was a good game on NES; It was an excellent game on Genesis.

The genesis version is not a simple NES port à la Battletoads or Bart vs the Space Mutants. Rather, Strider for Genesis is completely different with better sound and graphics, better gameplay, a considerably bigger sword, and more expansive levels. The Genesis version is much closer to the arcade original than the NES version.

Genesis is the way to go here.

Great, thanks! Sounds like I'll be picking up the Genesis version first then.

I play the NES Strider more than the Genesis Strider because it is a game I can beat in around half an hour or so.

But the Genesis version has HUGE sprites, very memorable boss battles, and some of the best graphics on the genny.

As others have said they're completely different games.

Genesis Strider is an arcade port.

NES Strider is an original platformer that does its own thing.

Both are worth playing if you ask me but if you want the real Strider experience, you want the Genesis Strider.

Try not to mind the awful box art.

LOL I was actually looking at copies of the game on Amazon today and saw the box art. Reminded me of Flash Gordon. Awful. Almost worse than Iron Sword's box art (Fabio).

Really? I think they're above average for an early 16-bit game, but not great compared to what the Genesis did in the later years.

It's probably one of the best looking early, pre-Sonic titles but I agree. It's pretty dated compared to most of the later releases. Though even as far as early games go it was no MUSHA.
