The Best Undiscovered Platformers

by pankakes123 Sat Mar 31, 2012 3:37 pm

I thought this would be a fun and long-lasting forum topic, so here it is. Let's start naming some of our favorite undiscovered platformers.

Here's mine:
Super Magnetic Neo (Dreamcast)
Bomberman Hero (N64)
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger Series (Xbox, PS2, Gamecube)
Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions (SNES)

So... What are your favorite?

Every time I learn the title of an undiscovered platformer, it's too late to post about because I've already discovered it at that point.

Megaman Network Transmission. It's a spin-off of a spin-off that goes from platformer to bizarre grid based combat RPG to bizarre RPG platformer... thing.

I really enjoyed Ty when I was younger. Never played the sequels.
I'm still not sure whether I'm a kid or a squid now.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger's Mascot Genocider is a game I'd love to play.

Maybe we should make up names, and then see if those games actually exist. If not, then they are undiscovered.

Hey, if we're gonna do something like this, I think everyone should at least write a quick blurb about whatever platformers they mention. Maybe include a screenshot or something?

Give me a reason to want to try these 'undiscovered' games out!

Check out Racketboy's Undiscovered GBA Games article. It clued me into Disney's Lilo & Stitch which I would otherwise not even attempt to play. It's basically Metal Slug with a cute (but violent) Disney exterior - right down to riding a tank (or in this case a turtlebug?).
Unless you look to less popular consoles or computer platforms there's a pretty big list neatly compiled in the hidden gems section complete with screenshots and well-written reviews.

I'm too lazy to catpure and upload pics or write reviews right now so I'm just Googling the games I thought of.

One for PSP I didn't get too far into yet, but really enjoyed is Prinny: Can I really be the Hero

As for the computer platforms, I've got a few favorites:

La Mulana
a MSX-like platformer that's a MetroidVania type game.

Bunny Must Die
A difficult Metroidvania with great graphics.

MegaMari
Touhou Classic Megaman - unfair platforming puzzles so you need to memorize them.

Knight 'n Grail
A new (2010) Commodore 64 game - Metroidvania.
