for the record sonic 4 Ep.2 did not get made after sonic generations so it's not fair to base it off that engine. It was made at the same time with 2 different teams and sonic ep2 was done before generations.

On that note it would be

sonic colors
sonic 4 ep.2
sonic generations

Im pretty sure if they would have done generations first they would have built the game more in that tradition. so really it was a great progression atleast I think. But jusdeing sonic 4 ep.2 as the follow up to generations would seem odd which is what most people think but it's not true.

Generations has not had a followup yet they just did not want any of those game taking eachothers thunder and that was the plan from the start

Screw the engine, S4E2 has bad level design.

Speed and S4E1 do not belong in the same sentence.

The speed at which I was diappointed with S4E1 bordered on the speed of sound.

Care to retract your statement?

Lol I know you guys don't like this game That ok :) I am infact a huge minority in this subject but honestly I don't find sonic 4 to be any slower then sonic 1 or 2 both those games have lot's of stops and waiting and platformering and sonic 4 seems about the same. In both game's there are parts where your blazeing and part's where your stop and go. That how sonic has always been.

I really don't see what everyone else is talking about? Now if you were to compare it to sonic cd well that game is quite a bit quicker. But that game was faster then most of them from what I recall.

I really wanted to understand what everyone was talking about so i went back and played both sonic 2 and sonic 4 without bias to see if maby it's been a while and I was wrong and what I came up with was this....
Sonic 4 (opening level)

Sonic the hedgehog (opening level)

Sonic 4

Really they run at the same pace most of the time. I can not see any statement about sonic 4 being slow to be true nor valid. Now I agree sonic the hedgehog for mega-drive was and is a better game then sonic 4! still the speed and platformering is very close.
Opening levels on both are all speed and very fast then later levels involve underwater platforms lifting up, pressing buttons and switches same deal.

same goes for sonic 4 ep.2 and sonic the hedgehog 2. In-fact they run the same in both games almost exactly. It's fine if people don't like the new one's but to say that the old one's are way faster and not platformy is an major understatement!

Same structures, different physics. The engine makes all the difference.
