Heres one that needs to be mentioned:

Jumping Flash for the playstation

Image

One of the first games to come out for the original playtation and one of the first TRUE 3D platformers to come out on a home console. JumpingFlash was extremely original since it was a FPP(first person platformer). One of my favorite games ever, the sequel is also worth checking out if you like it.

One plaformer I really liked (and still like) is M.C. Kids (NES), despite the fact it was reviewed by AVGN.

Two other games I find fun despite being relatively easy are :

Wacky Races (NES) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqS_1JgA0Ag

Felix the Cat (NES) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVyno-t8 ... re=related
My format: Gamer

Here is another good one:

Mischief makers for the n64

This is pretty much the inverse of gunstar heroes in that instead of the main focus being shooting enemies, your grabbing them and throwing them all over the place. This game was EXTREMELY unique for its time and is still fun to play today.

Funny thing is that when I saw that AVGN review, the only thing it made me think was "Hey this game actually looks pretty neat, I should check it out sometime."

I think he actually admitted once that MC Kids was not THAT bad of a game but far from amazing.

M.C. Kids is surprisingly a lot of fun. I used to rent it all the time when I was little. I should pick it up sometime.

I don't know about Mischief Makers being undiscovered. I've never had a conversation with anyone about the N64 without somebody bringing it up. It does have sort of love/hate reputation though.

I think it's probably safe to say that if it weren't for Mischief Makers being released at a time when the N64 had some pretty slim pickings (1997 had, what, Goldeneye, Mario Kart, and Starfox?) I imagine the game would be pretty much unheard of.

Speaking of n64 though, I imagine Chameleon Twist would qualify has a Platformer Hidden Gem.

I like Ruff N Tumble on the Amiga - it is a bit hard, but I love the big sprites and the music is pretty good. If I'd owned an Amiga in the '90s I would have lost my shit for this.

The link is a flash game version which is pretty cool (although different from the original) but you don't have to wait for the loooonnngggg loading times

That shield/boomerang weapon is amazing. Level design is pretty great for such a limited physics engine too.
