Here's two that are shoot em ups as well as platformers: Metal Slug and Mega Man X3, X4. There's Symphony of the Night import which has great platforming, though it has a lot of RPG elements.

Ok thanks. I've tried Metal slug and X4 but not the other 2's

I'd reccomend Astal and Tryrush Deppy (which is Japanese only, but one of my favourite platformers on the system).

Magical Hoppers - granted, it is 3D graphics on a 2D plain.
