Sonic Special Stages: yay or nay?

Sonic the Hedgehog still has the best special stages. I would have played a whole game that was nothing but Sonic 1 special stages.

If I were to pick a different one, Sonic 3D Blast for the Saturn had an awesome take on Sonic 2's special stages...

I swear, I get instant anxiety whenever I fall underwater in any Sonic game because of this. That music that plays right as he is about to drown used to scare the shit out of me as a kid.

As for the special stages, I really enjoyed the one from Sonic the Hedgehog. The Sonic 2 special stage annoyed me because Tails always hit the bombs due to how he lagged behind a bit.

You want to play Cameltry. I just spent considerable time this morning with it and it is the closest I've seen to Sonic 1's special stage. Give it a go

I honestly cant stand the special stages in sonic 1 on the mega drive, but love the ones on sonic 1 for master system, with the land full of springs and bumpers.

Those are really cool. Chaotix has been on my wishlist for a while as well, but I've yet to find a copy at a reasonable price, and I've never seen it in the wild. It seems to be one of those games that everyone recognizes as being good but not many people have finished, let alone played.
