A nice interview with David Crane

Post by Ivo »

I really enjoyed reading this one, and I'm not that much into Atari 2600 games.

The most important part of the article is this one, in my opinion

"I can spend a year making a game, surrounded by talented, professional artists, composers, sound effects specialists, and programmers. I can put it into the App store to critical acclaim, and still hear from a player who says “It’s a pretty good game but it isn’t worth 99 cents.”"

In many ways, it's a race for the bottom more than a spiral.

Very interesting review. Thanks for sharing.

I'd have to apologize to Mr. Crane for using a Genesis controller on my 2600, I just can't stand using the original joysticks anymore  .

I hate to admit it, but David Crane is the only Activision founder whose name I remember.

Anyone else think we were talking about David Crane, the producer (Of Friends fame)?

I thought of this, although I guess there is no "David" in it:

Friends was produced by Bright/Kauffman/Crane. Crane = David Crane.

Nice Article! I would have liked to have read more on his later games, the hows and whys of game inspiration such as NES Boy and His Blob.

Maybe because the hardware to run that dollar App is so expensive? The article goes further which I don't fully agree on though, just look at the preorder business on console games.
David Crane wrote:I want to take that player by the shoulders, shake him and ask “Are you telling me you got less enjoyment from that game than you get from a small order of fries from McDonalds?!?” As a whole, we are still willing to pay $12 to see a movie ($14 if it is in 3D), but we are becoming a society that expects games to cost less than a buck.
