[quote="MrPopo"]It was faster to list the 32 games I haven't beaten:

Hard core to the mega!*
Although I'm genuinely surprised you haven't done Disco Elysium! I believe it was the highest polled game in Simon Parkin's My Perfect Console podcast.

*This is a Disco Elysium reference.

it's actually more interesting to see which ones I haven't beaten, because it begs the question why? Lack of time? Or maybe because I considered the game overrated and not worth my time.

Arrogant as it may sound, as someone who has played games for most of his life and seen the majority of the gaming industry's life span, I feel like I could put together a better list than any official source. I can't say that about any other form of entertainment as the others have existed for much longer than the time I've been on this planet and I don't have that same level of experience with them

Only eleven, and of those eleven nine are either Mario or Zelda games.

Only maybe another 20 on the list are even on my radar.

Only, like, four people have ever beaten Tetris, and it's all been within the last two months.
I have never kill-screened any game.
I think it's generally agreed that defeating the Ender Dragon is the "beating" Minecraft, but otherwise I am not really open to alternate definitions of "beating" a game if it does not have a clearly defined ending. I never "beat" The Sims or Sim City or Transport Tycoon.
I used a cheat code to beat Doom as a kid and have not revisited it, so I didn't put that on my list.

I'd argue Sim City is "beaten" once you reach megalopolis status, as there is no larger city size in the game. But yeah, this is a subjective list and how one views something as beaten.

I think if you got the big space shuttle on Gameboy that counts.

I've beaten 35 out of 100. The oldest game I've beaten is The Legend of Zelda (1986); the newest is Celeste (2018).

I'm not really a fan of this list. Unless I miscounted, 75 out of 100 games were released from the year 2000 onward. Some real recency bias going on. Then again I don't know how this list was compiled. Did they only poll people under the age of 23 or something?

I also agree with the questioning of certain games. Can you beat the Sims? Tetris? et cetera.

I mean, it's 2024 now, so 2000 to today is 23 years. 23 years before 2000 is 1976. So there are, what, 25 games from 1976-1999 and 75 games from 2000 - 2023. I do think it's weighted a little inequitably, but I suspect that the total number of game titles released during that later span is significantly higher than before it, so I don't think it's actually as timeline-biased as perhaps you do.

91. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (2001)
92. Final Fantasy X (2001)
99. Final Fantasy IX (2000)

A total of 48 for me.

I find it extremely weird that they'd list Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater at number 35, but also have Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence on the list at 73. It's pretty much the same game on the list twice.

One thing I tend to notice about these lists is they almost never have anything from Sega on there. It's a shame one of the big historical players in the games industry goes so forgotten these days.

No Ys.

No Xak.

No Skies of Arcadia.

No mf'ing Contra?!?!?!?!

B-tier casual console WRPGs but no Ultima or Wizardry.

Baldur's Gate 3 instead of Baldur's Gate 1.

Twee tumblr meme games like Undertale and Celeste.

Final Fantasy VI rated lower than VII.

It's literally over.
