I thought it would be a good idea to have a fresh thread for this game after it's release. Our old thread for this game is from 2015 when it was first announced.

Ritual of the Night is to be released on Steam and GOG today! I know the Switch version wont be released until the 25th, and the PS4 version on the 20th. I pre-ordered the GOG version and plan on installing it as soon as I get home from work. Anyone else pre-order this game, or planning to pick it up once it's released?

The special offer discount ends in about 4 hours, so I hope this means it'll unlock around noon for me.

Unless you're a physical backer then you might have been playing it since yesterday like me. :P

I like it quite a bit, but it's far from perfect. I'm interested in seeing how people will react. At the very least it does feel like a true successor to Iga's Castlevania games. I'll discuss more when more people have their hands on it and I've finished the game.

Yes, my physical PS4 copy arrived yesterday. Haven't installed/played it yet though.

Looks better than most modern games. I'll be grabbing it on Switch in 2020 or 2021, and playing it in 2025 or so. Curious to see what you guys think. I downloaded that "8-bit" precursor and enjoyed what I played. Need to finish that one first (plus Castlevania III).

At my backer level I got a Steam key and a Switch physical; I'm going to wait until the Switch physical comes in the mail. It'll give me time to do Timespinners and maybe one other short game beforehand.

I backed for the physical Switch version, so have to wait until next week. What I've heard and seen seems very good though. I'm interested to see what people here think.

It totally rules. My main worry this whole time was wondering how it would "feel", being a polygonal 3D game technically instead of flat 2D sprites. I'd still always favor sprite art and pixels, but I have zero complaints with the controls, motions, and visuals here. Adding that hint of cel shading from their last major update awhile ago was a smart move, the art style is awesome and I've seen some cool looking rooms and areas so far. 2.5D games usually don't leave much of a visual impression on me but I think this one will.

Basically yeah, this is SoTN 2.0.

Hopefully they're open to some fan feedback and still planning on some updates and stuff, there are a few quality of life things and options I'd like to see added:
- make the map remember your position, or always have it centered. It's weird how it resets everytime you open it (the further you get in the game, you'll know what I mean)
- When selling/buying stuff, some indicator/icon showing what you currently have equipped would be nice

Installing now.

For PC, what controller options is everyone using?

edit: Just played to a little past the first save point. I admit, I was a little worried about the graphic style as well. I was never a huge fan of 2.5D, but this is well done. And it plays great so far. It definitely feels like a naturally progression from SotN.

I received my xbox version in the mail yesterday. I've put about an hour and a half in and I'm really enjoying it so far. Certainly puts up more of a fight than SoTN does at the beginning.

They have this. Look at the left of the item name where there's the little image of it. There should be an "E" next to stuff you have equipped. It can be hard to see on some items, but its there.
