I added Flatout 2 for the Sony Playstation 2 this evening!

Every year, I attend Missouri Game Con, which is a video game convention in my hometown. It's only been a few years old, but it has brought in some special guests along with some great vendors. I always attend with a friend of mine and has become my favorite game shopping day of the year is.

It's much easier for me to buy the tickets and for him to pay me back. It was getting close to the convention and he still hadn't paid me back. One night, we were playing games at his house when he found out he had two copies of Flatout 2. He had both the XBOX and PS2 versions of the game.

We looked up prices and they were comparable to how much ticket was worth and since I needed the PS2 copy, he handed me it and we were even. I had no problem and I was always happy to receive a game I was looking for.

I loved the original and I have dabbled in it at an Arcade that I go to that has an emulated Driving Machine with a ton of games on it. I'm looking forward to playing it with a really good controller now!

Markies...I just want to tell you that I love how you write a short story about every game you add to your collection. I read every one, and it is clear you think about your collection the same way I think of mine. Keep it up.

Agreed.

I appreciate how carefully Markies is in curating his collection. The patience and attention to detail is commendable.

Him: After two weeks without a game purchase, and extremely careful consideration, I have decided to purchase this pristine copy of a PS2 RPG. I have fond memories of playing it in the 2002 era and I'm proud to enter it into my own personal collection. Here's to new memories.

Me: lol these 27 Famicom games were $1 each.

Okay, I have to say, those are my two favorite posts ever here on Racketboy, so thank you for that.

I know it doesn't look like it as I'm making up for lost time, but I actually don't buy a ton of games. Like, I normally average a game every month or so. I do put in a ton of consideration and thought into choosing which game to buy, so I like to reflect that in my posts. Plus, I always like to describe the reason for picking up a game instead of just that they look neat. Most of them fall into the category of, I wanted that game when I was younger, but I never got it, so I'm making up for it.

Also, I have intentions of beating my Backlog in the next few years, so I look into a game purchase as more than just shelf space. I'll be playing these relatively soon, so I want to pick games I will like.

I only have a few games left, those that I picked up at the Convention. Some of them have interesting stories, so I promise to share those in the next few weeks. :D

2019 Pickups:

1. Final Fight (SNES)
2. House of the Dead 2, Sega All Stars version, and green VMU (Dreamcast)
3. Ms. Pac-Man (Sega Genesis)
4. Shinobi III (Sega Genesis)
5. Super Mario All-stars (SNES)
6. Forgotten Worlds (Sega Genesis)
7. Revenge of Shinobi (Sega Genesis)
8. Resident Evil 6 Archives (Xbox 360)
9. Captain America and the Avengers (Sega Genesis)
10. Shenmue II (PAL, Sega Dreamcast)

I've been looking for a decent copy of Captain America and the Avengers for a few years. When I was a kid, I would play this game at my best friend's house down the street and remember always having a blast with it. I had not played this game since that time, in the early 90's. I spotted it at my local video game store about a year ago, but didn't pick it up at that time and regretted it. Saw a good condition CIB copy on Ebay for a reasonable price and scooped it up. Had a great time revisiting the game in co-op mode with my girlfriend. We weren't able to finish it, so another try is coming soon.

I had been playing through Shenmue II using a CD-R copy I purchased from an acquaintance at school in the early 2000's around the time it came out, however I continued to receive a disc error early into Disc 2, so I had been stuck at this part of the game. Finally, I recently shelled out for a CIB PAL copy in good condition with the slipcase and manuals, and was able to continue playing through the game. The original Shenmue was one of my favorite games ever, so I'm really excited to continue the second game, which will be my main title to complete in the upcoming weeks. I don't have a PS4 but might have to get one to play the third title.

23. The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (SNES)

Image

I added The Legend of the Mystical Ninja for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System this evening!

For my final games being added in 2019, I will be focusing on the purchases I made at Missouri Game Con. I only have a few more and I bought all these games from the vendors at the convention.

The Convention is in its Fourth Year and in February, we will have a Miniature version of the Convention. I have been every year as I was at the very first one which took place at a Veteran's Hall, where the Miniature version will be taking place.

It is slowly growing into a full grown convention with arcades, panels and actual Gaming Celebrities. I met creators of Arcade games and several Youtube Celebrities. This past year, I met Pat the NES Punk, Jay from the Game Chasers and The Gaming Historian.

While doing my first pass, I cam across The Gaming Historian's table and I saw that he was actually selling some of his games. I then saw Legend of the Mystical Ninja, which was the SNES game I was looking for at the Convention.

It was really kind of neat to talk to him for a bit and then buy a game from his own personal collection. I used to watch his videos more when he was on Retroware, so its great to see him get really popular and becoming a full blown Youtube star.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja is a game I had been looking for a long time as it seemed very unique and fun. I look forward to finally giving it a shot.

Ouch. Yeah, I spent quite a lot this month.

The first 5 games and the GBA were picked up at a retro games market in London. I went with the intention of picking up quite a lot of them, so I was pretty impressed with myself for bringing these back this time - normally I end up with something totally different to my intention.

Ring Fit I picked up because I'm fat and hoped it would make me exercise more. It has, a little. Pokemon I picked up because I love Pokémon - I got the double pack so my wife could have a copy and play too.

This month I'm not gonna buy any games.

I added Bust-A-Move 4 for the Sony Playstation 1 this evening!

I've been to Missouri Game Con enough to go in with a plan. I went in first year and was awe struck with too many choices, so I left with nothing. I went in the second year and bought too many games because I didn't have a plan of attack.

So, for each convention, I would make a list of games that I was looking for. One for each system that I own and an extra game that I would call the expensive game. One special game that is a bit high priced, but it is the most coveted game that I was looking for.

I would go into my Wishlist and look for a game from each console that I wanted most. I was at Playstation 1 and I noticed that I was getting into the deep cuts of the system. I then remembered that I was going through the Bust A Move series and I saw that 4 was available.

While walking around the convention floor, I saw a near perfect copy of Bust A Move 4 for the PS1. It was easy for me to pick it up and continue my journey through the Bust A Move series.
