I'm playing the PS1 version. Are there any noteworthy differences? I have a chipped Saturn (because I see the eBay prices are ridiculous) so I could switch. I've only beat one stage so far, so I wouldn't mind starting over.
I understand the whole young boy being voiced by an adult women thing. For example, I had no idea that the male Rug Rats were voiced by women for the longest time. Especially Phil. But in MM8, he only sounds like a girl.
And what's up with the squeak toy sound effects that MM has? In X4, for example, you hear a metallic ::clank:: when X or Zero land and the Mega Buster sounds legit. In MM8, he seriously sounds like a squeak toy when he jumps and lands, and the Mega Buster sounds so wimpy.
Overall though, I rather like the aesthetics of MM8. I like how bright and vivid all the colors are. And Mega Man really pops on the screen. By comparison, I felt that X in X4 didn't pop enough and I would lose track of him when there was a lot happening on the screen. It just surprises me the level of cute they went with for MM8. It's like they had the X series, which is more serious, so they decided to go the opposite direction with the classic series.

Yeah, from the few cut scenes I've seen so far, it's pretty cringe-tastic.
