Getting fed up with modern gaming.

Post by Dikdikvandik »

Reading this made me want to punch a Comic store owner in the Northwest in the face.

http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2018/10/ ... p_scenario

Switch has the boobie games it's a sad state when a Nintendo platform is the only place to get the kinds of games I like to play uncensored.

It's almost like the only way to get the kinds of games I want to play is assemble my own team of like minded gamers, programers and artists and make these games for PC and self publish like the old days of posting your self made apple 2 floppies on a cork board at a computer shop.

Thing is I'd rather this stay my hobby.

Should I just get a good PC?

How is that a modern gaming issue? Companies have a long history of restricting certain content released on its hardware. PC has always been the platform for most anything goes.

Yeah but we've had 2 generations where games have been untouched and released uncut in the west, then all of a sudden Sony turns into 90s Nintendo while Nintendo is all out of f**ks to give.

I'm ok with season passes, and DLC, beats having to buy a new game a year later.

I'm ok paying for online.

I'm not ok with this.

Not like Microsoft and it's Focus group tested sparse first party offerings is any better, but I'm still considering going back to Xbox for the DOA6's and DMCV and Sekiro's so Sony gets no more money from me.

Fingers crossed the Rumors that Shin Yakuza will be on Xbox are true. As it Stands my Final bought new PS4 games will be Judge eyes and the Yakuza remasters.

Games haven't all been untouched for Western release prior to now. Whether similar edits to fondling underage characters like Criminal Girls: Invite Only, or more minor edits like those in Bravely Default or Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It's not just consoles either as Korean MMOs like Lineage 2 and Terra have had skimpy outfits redesigned, and until recently adult games on Steam were censored (albeit usually easily uncensored).

Thing is, other games get censored for other reasons when shipping elsewhere. Japan got a censored version of The Witcher III for instance. Germany and Australia get thing cut all the time. Different things are acceptable in different regions, so it's just part of having international releases.

To me, it seems like a lot of the outright censorship those article mention relates to female characters that could be seen as underage. Or they have other potential considerations - DOA likely toning things down in the base game to make it easier to meet broadcast/streaming standards, for instance. Changes aren't being made just 'cause.

PC will tend to have ways to revert changes made, or nude mods, etc, if that's what makes a game good for you. Plenty of outright porn as well.

Dude, the West has always had stuff censored when it comes to sexuality. This is about as far from a "new" thing as it gets. The internet just publicizes it more these days.

I mean my personal pet peeves around modern gaming tend to be more around how many AAA companies seem to be designing games around how they can monetize them post-launch with free-to-play-esque microtransactions.

I mean with how Steam has been getting sued by national governments as a result of its utter refusal to take an active part in curating the content on its storefront, I'm far from surprised that Sony is taking this active role to avoid a similar fate. And like others have said, it's not like this is a very new problem. I'd say just invest in a PC so you can mod your games if the booby aspects of JRPGs and the like are that important to you.

"games have always been censored" Isn't a valid excuse. Games have been mostly uncensored for the last few years, but why all of a sudden is Sony going out of their way to prevent boobie games? Not just here in the US but in Japan as well. Did some super conservative prude get together with some SJWs to say NO MORE TIDDIES FOR YOU!

When on Switch (Currently my main console) we have Senran Kagura reflexations... with RUMBLE... And several visual novels.

It makes ZERO sense that this happens all of a sudden.

Yes I do have a problem with Western games too. Only Western developer I like is Bethesda and western practices are starting to bleed into Japanese games, Tekken has what 2 season passes and a character nobody wants (Negan) to try to reach "A bigger audence" who probably will use Negan once then move on to whatever bro shooter is hot at the moment?

XBOX isn't perfect, I jumped from XBOX to PlayStation in 2013 because the games I wanted to play weren't coming to XBOX. Now it's the other way around and with Sony being so strict about boobies what does that mean for Guilty Gear? Blazblue? DOA6? How about Yakuza? Yakuza doesn't have teen tiddies but there is quite a bit of softcore adult content in Yakuza and that series is PlayStation exclusive? Does Sega make it PC only? Is Sony going to make Namco patch out Ivy's Rack in Soul Calibur VI? At least on XBOX I can play all the Capcom and Namco stuff in peace and MOST Square Enix stuff. Fingers crossed for the Swtich version of Dragon Quest XI....

Here's another question, Will Kojima stick around with Sony after Death Stranding? We know Kojima can get pretty risque with his games, will Sony just continue to let him do what he wants or impose limits on him? Kojima loves him some Nintendo...does he go there to paint what he wants on a smaller canvas?

I'm not totally done with Playstation, If Judge eyes is allowed to release I'll get that and the remasters of Yakuza 3-5 IF Sega is allowed to release those as well.
I might grab Akiba Strip to before Sony makes everyone destory their copies and patch it to be unplayable.....

Next gen it's looking like I'm going PC only even if it means giving up collecting.

You seem confused, and also this isn't some conservative issue either, though perhaps it's a mix of family and politics.

The fact you've been blind to it for so long and now are seeing it says how self aware you are when it comes to games. Nintendo did it in the 80s and some of the 90s up until they got shamed by MK1 pretty much and a lot fell off from there basically culminating in the nastiest version of Conker's Bad Fur Day on the N64 which your coveted Xbox toned down a bit.

If Sony is being more paranoid, so be it, if you need more hentai with your games, that's more of a personal issue I would think. But this definitely wasn't some thing that was all of a sudden with Sony or any other company.

You've also ripped on (rightly so) the abusive nature of DLC and microtransactions. But what I find interesting and I'll use the very game you called out:
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/s ... ons-switch

That one, scroll the page down a bit, is loaded with nickeling and diming stupidity. Given the nature of the title I wouldn't say that western culture broke in on that, classic greed did given they have little overhead on a digital only product which costs a lot less to get out there, then they do that which could have been in part or all included in the price they're asking for that so called 'reflexology' game of love. Perhaps you need to punish Nintendo too, not because they do it, but because their third parties pull the same morally bankrupt tactics too.

I give your entire argument 2 jiggling tentacles up!

I mean, I wouldn't be so fussed if they covered up some girls or gave them more realistic proportions in Yakuza or any game because I play them as video games. The beating up people element of Shin Yakuza is gonna be just as fun with or without women in it being dressed ever so slightly more revealingly. I don't buy them for the express purpose of softcore porn in those games.

It's not like Sony is banning games and destroying already-released games wholesale on their storefront. Personally, all the crazy booby fanservice and objectification in games makes me pretty uncomfortable, so I'm all for them toning it back a bit. That's just me though, and not every game is made or curated for me. There are plenty of games, like SoulCalibur VI, that are put together with TONS of fanservice in mind. I think this SJW gaming apocalypse you're heralding may be overreacting just a little bit to Sony covering their own asses when it comes to having one blanket policy to deal with international censorship laws.
