Detroit: Become Human

So far I'm really enjoying it. I did NOT expect Cage to do such a great job with this game. What do you guys think of it so far?

I'm really enjoying it so far. The only problem I find, is I think the plot and story suffers a lot in a similar way Beyond Two Souls did. It all just feels a little 'loose' and I feel a bit disconnected from it. There's a lot of cliched plot devices too and the overall story doesn't interest me as much as I thought it would, especially compared to Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) and Heavy Rain. Part of that might be that it's very similar to the UK television series Humans, so it feels like I've seen a lot of it before. I know Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain both have their problems and drew a lot of criticism, but I still find the overarching, general plot in those a bit more interesting (I mean opening a video game with the main protagonist murdering someone and not knowing why they did it is one of the coolest video game intros ever).

I just think the swapping between characters that are on completely different story paths make it feel a bit disjointed. In Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain, it was all part of the same overarching plot and it felt connected in a far more clever and intricate way. I do appreciate though, as I get nearer the end all characters are going to become more tied into the central plot, but at the moment it just doesn't feel so strong.

Objectively though this is probably Quantic's best game yet and my criticisms are only minor gripes really. I'm still really engaged and invested in the characters (Kara and Connor are the most interesting to me). I appreciate refinements they've made, like removing the vague combat mechanics from Beyond that wouldn't tell you which directions to press and adding a flowchart so you can see the impact and consequences of your actions (or lack of action) on the story unfolding. Graphically this is also probably the most gorgeous and stunning games of the generation so far.
