I believe i may have figured out why some 360/PS3/PS4 games get wavy cover art while others do not. I bought a few different types of replacement cases. Some normal 14mm Bluray and two kinds made for the PS3 specifically (not official). I tried a few of my most wavy covers in these cases and when i close them they get even more wavy. Like WAY more. They don't seem to fit. While other PS3 covers (the straighter ones) do without issue. I also tried putting the more wavy covers in the legit cases of straighter cover games and they look better..

What i think it is, is a combination of cover art that is cut slightly to big at the factory (This is the main cause i think) and some cases being made with slightly less room for the cover when the protective plastic is glued (or melted?) to the case. It "scrunches" the art slighly and they become wavy.

*shrugs" :D

I'm sure nobody cares at this point but i have some more thoughts on this. :)

Today my brother dropped off a box of games he doesn't play. PS3/360 but mostly PS4. He pays no special attention to how he treats his games in any way as they are pretty much disposable to him. So i was shocked to see that most of them are in true like new condition. He makes a couple hundred grand a year and doesn't want to bother selling them.. so lucky me. 58 free games. Some of the PS3 games do have the normal tiny bit of warping on the top left of the art that i see in everybody's collections. However, quite literately NONE of the PS4 games do. Unlike almost all of my PS4 games. So what's the difference?

Every one of his were bought new at retail stores.

99% of my games were ordered online and shipped to me. Some new. Some used.

I think what i typed in my last post is valid for PS3 but after this i think a lot of it is.. bubble mailers. When i look at all of the games he dropped off from the side, the side that opens, they are all perfectly straight. When i look at mine, not so much. Lots are ever so slightly bowed/warped. I think the true cause is what happens to them in the mail. They must get smooshed around quite a bit going though all those hands. All kinds of things stacked on top.. ect :/

If i take a "perfect" game and put a little pressure in the middle, the top of the art warps/ripples just like all the affected games. Goes away immediately when i let go. Now imagine that happening with far greater force over, and over, and over, for 1 to 6 weeks. :/

I took a couple of my worst PS4 offenders and swapped with cases from some of these new-to-me games i dont care about. This "cleaned" them up a bit but the art is still not perfect. I'd likely have to iron the art like how people restore NES/SNES/N64 boxes to truly fix.. I doubt i ever will though :D

*shrugs* oh well.

I am glad you like it :P If there were something wrong with things you are collecting, and spending money on, would you no want to at least attempt to find out why?

I was really hoping this box of games would put my mind at ease with at least some of his games being just like mine.. but they aren't :(

Most of my ps4 games look like this..
Image

Not a single one of the 40+ games from the guy who doesn't care in the slightest how he treats his games do :'(

I'd also like to point out that i have been running a humidity sensor since starting this thread and the humidity in my place is always between 25% and 35% (very rare spikes to 40%). And, even on the most humid days here, it is always lower when window is open than when closed. Also, since noticing.. none of my games have gotten worse and none of the games that have perfectly straight art have become "Warped." So i feel like i have ruled out humidity or anything i am personally doing wrong.

No, it really just sounds like either a side-effect of some particular aspect of manufacturing, packaging, or shipping. But I think you’re the only one here who considers it a marked defect. I believe the manufacturer and retailers, as well as the vast majority of consumers, consider that normal product variability. The particular kind of perfection you want is just not the type Sony and its partners are prepared to offer.

They sure as frig offered it to my brother! LOL .. i mean dang, his (mine now) games are all so heckin mint that i am genuinely shocked. They even have that almost slick like new plastic feeling that most shelved games lose quickly. And hes had some for many years without even a thought of caring for them.. lol

I do agree with you though.. I think if i had bought all of my games brand new on launch day at a brick and mortar store (Like he did) i would't be seeing what i see. I buy 99% of my games many months after release (when they are cheap) and they are almost all shipped to me in bubble mailers. Strange that PS4/3 games are so much more prone to it than anything else *srugs* :D

Curious.. That game i posted a picture of was Uncharted 4. If you were looking to buy that game.. would that picture stop you from buying that particular copy? The copy i got from him is perfect so i will be selling the copy above, along with a few others. Should i mention it in the description? Or does literally nobody other than me care? lol

I would find that perfectly acceptable in a new copy of a game. It is not an issue even worth mentioning for resale.

Same here. I had to look at the image for over a minute to even find what you were talking about in regards to the condition of the game. It looks perfectly fine to me otherwise Xp

Interesting. :)

I thought i was done obsessing over it until i got these games lol. And it all came rushing back! heh

I just watched a few more collection vids on YouTube to calm me down. While a few people do have a lot of super "perfect" games. The people that you can tell are actual gamers, not just collectors, have tons of games that look like they might have actually used them more than just to film collection vids lol. I consider myself a gamer with a collection being a neat byproduct :)
