I like FFII a lot. Sure, if I gave out review scores like Bone it'd be a 6 or 7 but for what it attempted at the time I think it's fairly successful. There's this melanchony feel to the game which I enjoy. I always thought the Emperor was a good villain as well.

+1

I also really liked it for these reasons. It is a bit awkward, and most of the other games in the series are better. It’s still pretty good, though.

I liked the PSP version. The overworld theme is so awesome and somber. I'm glad I played and beat it but it's one FF I don't think I'll ever touch again. Big props to Markies for tackling the original version.

I had to play the original as I am a Final Fantasy fanboy.
I just had too.

I might rank it a bit higher, but that is not a bad description for the game. For me, it's an important step in the series, but if you take away its historical significance then that is where I would rank it.

But, yes, please pay either the PS1, PSP or GBA versions if you are going to play it. Makes the game so much better and easier to play.

Which ones do you have left to play, if any? I loved FF3 NES! Overall my favorites are FF4-FF7. I dig FF8 and FF12 a good bit and really warmed up to FF10 when I replayed it with the HD remaster.

Let's see...

I have played FF3 on the NDS once.
But, I also own a Repro of FF3 NES, so I will be playing that.

And I think that is it.
I have not played FFXI, FF13's, FFXIV, XV or many of the spin offs besides Tactics and Mystic Quest.

My main focus was on FF1 - FF12. I will work on the other and later iterations in the system later on.

Good stuff! I love having beaten FF1-FF10, in some form. I'm not big on FF4DS, but otherwise that one has a lot of cool versions... the PSP one is really cool. I wish FF3 and FF5 got a nice graphical facelift like that. I still need to play FF12 again and try to knock it out, I'm excited for the HD remaster since it has the job system and some other new features.

I'm sure you'll enjoy FF3 NES since you've played the first two originals. It's really impressive and huge for an NES game too, amazing OST. I was able to dig up my old emulator saves from 2013 and took some screenshots earlier this year. The secret two hidden late game classes, Ninja and Sage!

I'll be very curious about playing FFIII on the NES.

When I played it on the NDS, I had a hell of a time. At the time, I was rather rushed to beat the game, so I was kind of racing through the game. It was incredibly hard and I didn't like it as much.

When I do the NES version, I am going to do my best to take my time and really enjoy it. I enjoyed FFV and I really love the job system, so I am excited to learn about its roots.

But, thank you for those pictures as those are some ridiculous stats.

I would highly suggest playing through FF12 as that is one of my favorites in the series. It is one of the few games where I play it and hours just seem to disappear. Sometimes, you feel like you accomplished nothing, but you enjoyed every moment of it. The story is interesting and can be rather typical, but stay for the combat system, the music and the graphics. Some of the best music and graphics on the PS2. The amount of bosses that are unique that make you change your strategy is insane. It's a long game and can be a bit of a slog, but once it gets under your skin, you will love every moment afterwards.

FFIII's job system is much rougher than V's. The major thing to keep in mind is that the game's level design is based around forcing you to switch to particular jobs at various points. It will do this through equipment availability or combat encounter design. You should not be afraid of having a full party be all the same job; this is required at several points in the game to make any real headway. Then it all goes out the window at the end because Ninja and Sage are the best non-fully equipped Onion Knight.
