pook99 wrote:I love the army men series also, back when I was managing funcoland I used to buy every army men game day 1 and play through them while the rest of the staff and customers mocked me for it. I never played the portable ones but if you like the series you definitely need to play the console versions of air attack, it was the one army men game that was critically well received and plays a lot like a more arcadey version of jungle/desert strike.

I have Air Combat on N64 as well as Air Attack on PS1. I just haven't played through them yet. I'm planning to do that sometime in the coming months. I also had Air Tactics on PC when I was a kid, but I sadly don't have that anymore. Air Combat: The Elite Mission on Gamecube is pretty good, too.

1. Bastion (iOS)
2. LaserCat (360)
3. Zombie Incident (3DS)
4. Bye-Bye BoxBoy! (3DS)
5. Monument Valley 2 (iOS)
6. Zenge (iOS)
7. Master of Darkness (Game Gear/3DS)
8. Wonder Boy (SMS)
9. Adventure Island (NES)

Wonder Boy is a charming action platformer that looks great and plays like a dream. It is intermittently challenging, but never frustrating, and it is just a lot of fun. Adventure Island, on the other hand, looks good and sounds good, but after you get through the first few levels, it becomes repetitive and frustrating. (The platforming in 6-1 and 8-3 is like something out of I Wanna Be The Guy). Wonder Boy is simply more fun, more varied, and otherwise superior in every way. I recommend Wonder Boy to everyone and Adventure Island to no one.

Recent games Beaten:

51. Ninja Gaiden 2 (nes)
52. Axiom Verge (steam)
53. The Evil within 2 (steam)
54. Entertainment hero (steam)

51. Ninja Gaiden 2: This game does not get the love it deserves, everyone talks about the original, and while the original deserves all the love it gets, the sequel is often overlooked. The fact is the sequel improves on the original in every way, the cutscenes are more fleshed out, the music is superior, the level design is more varied, the bosses are more challenging, and the difficulty is better throughout the game.

The original game is lauded as one of the hardest of all time, the reality is the original is actually really easy until you get to the last level. The last level is a total clusterf--- that culminates with 3 bosses, the middle being head and shoulders harder then anything else the game throws at you. To make matters worse, you die and it is back to 6-1, to do it all over again.

NInja gaiden 2 is overall a harder game, the challenge stays consistent throughout but it does not have the cheesy ending that the original had.

52. Axiom Verge: Incredible metroid style indie. If you like metroid than this game is a must play and easily one of the best metroid clones ever made.

53. Evil Within 2: I can't find the words to express how much I enjoyed this game. I loved the original and this game improves on it in every way. I don't have the time to write a detailed review of it but this game is definitely the best survival horror game I have ever played in my life.

Good stuff pook99. While most eyes were on RE7 last year, I think Evil Within 2 was vastly superior. Axiom Verge is amazing and up there with Shovel Knight and Momodora for my favorite retro indie games so far.

Does Evil Within 2 work better if you've played the first first? I'm interested in both, but that's some praise.

Just wrapped up Halo 2.

It was my first time to play through the campaign 100% on solo (vs co-op years ago). Wow, it's still an amazing looking game. Hard to believe it turns 14 years old this year . I played THE MESS out of the multi player until Winter 2009 or so. Thats ~2 years after Halo 3 was released. We did eventually fully switch over to Halo 3... well, bc they killed oXbox live in Spring 2010 . It was nice to revisit the lengthy (for FPS) story driven campaign.

This one has aged well and is surprisingly tough at times. It takes everything great about Halo CE, amps it up, and polishes it. I'll save the rest for a better review.

While I've played several retro games causally, got addicted to Super Hang On in MAME, & been on a big movie kick... my beaten list grows! I owe you guys write ups on my three 2018 beaten below. I'd estimate 10 hours into each before the credits rolled.

2018 Games Beaten:
1. Halo: Combat Evolved (oXbox)
2. Kameo: Elements of Power (360)
3. Halo 2 (oXbox, played on 360)

Maybe play Wonder Boy with some music on in the background though. That music theme starts to make you feel a bit crazy after a while.

I'm curious how it improved over the first. I thought the first game was a massive exercise in missed potential and disappointment.

the first has been on my "will play someday" list... since it was released. But the second just had first person mode added, so I'm kinda more itching to get to that one.

You have to play the first game to get all the plot elements and references. There are too many characters and events that will have you scratching your head. Evil within one is a flawed, but fun game and worth experiencing for sure. The second is rightfully described as spectacular
