I added Power Stone 2 for the Sega DreamCast!

So, I am finally done adding games from my convention last summer. Afterwards, I noticed that I did not pick up any Dreamcast games. A few weeks after the convention, I saw that a local game store added some really nice Dreamcast games. Since I was unemployed at the time, I decided to take a trip down there and pick up this gem.

I played through the first game with all the characters and really enjoyed my time with it. The game was very interesting and unique. I know in Power Stone 2, it's more of a 4 player free for all compared to 1 vs. 1. I'll be curious to see which I like better, but I'm very excited to find the sequel to a great game.

The running joke is that EA just repackages and re-releases their sports games every year because of how little tends to change (and FIFA is generally considered to be the worst offender by far).

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. Looks like that was another six post, vapor account, though.

Nice pickup, Markies. Back when the Dreamcast was released, I played a little bit of Power Stone on a demo kiosk (remember those?), and for whatever reason I had the most intensely negative reaction to it. (I assume it had something to do with me sucking at it, but who knows.) For years I was pretty irrationally bothered by even the mildest praise of the game. Fast forward to a few years ago: I decided to actually spend some real time playing it, and loved it so much I ended up beating it with all the characters, like you. I even did all the VMU mini-game stuff to unlock everything in the game. I still haven't really touched the sequel, though. I'm a little afraid that I won't really like it as much as the first game, without playing it in multiplayer.

I played a fair amount of it on the DS, when it came out originally, and couldn't really stick with it for a variety of reasons. I kind of remember the badge thing just not working for me, and feeling extremely cumbersome. My roommate at the time really liked it, though--.

If you're anything like me, sadly you won't. Like you, I loved the first game and unlocked everything (that game was the only reason why i had working batteries in my VMUs). The first game was just perfect. It was an amazing fighting game, in a fully 3D open arenas and interactive environments. The gameplay was just amazing and the weapons and chaos was just the icing on the cake.

The sequel has its place, with the amazing four player multiplayer, but unfortunately it loses a lot of the appeal the first game had. I don't know, it just doesn't feel as good. The weapons, the chaos and the interactive arenas are no longer the icing on the cake. They ARE the cake. It feels like Capcom dialed back on the core fighting mechanics and just threw everything at the wall with this one (I mean, if I remember correctly, there are even vehicles). And to be honest, whilst the arenas are bigger and now transition (so you'll be on a ship for part of the match, then you'll be floating to the ground, then you'll end up somewhere else) etc., they're just not as good.

The first game was more balanced, whilst the sequel really is just a race to get all the power stones and use as many weapons as possible. It is still a great multiplayer game though.

Yeah, that's what I was kind of worried about. Even though it was only two players, the first Power Stone felt kind of like Smash Bros arenas, with a really "Capcom" fighting engine under the hood, which is just magic. (How do they do that.) I remember reading somewhere, some time ago, about a "league" of Power Stone 2 players on the West Coast (US), who were still playing it in sort of tournament style, and seemed to prefer it to the first game. I don't know. I probably won't be playing it any time soon, but I'm hoping to keep an open mind. If nothing else, I'm sure it's a great party game.

Power Stone 2 is a great game, but it's a very different game from the first one and which you prefer just comes down to what kind of game you want Power Stone to be (at least in my opinion). I know the sequel has loads of fans and a lot of people do ask me how I can possibly prefer the first game when - in their opinion - the best thing about the series is the multiplayer and the first game restricts this to two player. To be fair, I haven't played it in at least 5-10 years ish, so I really should give it a play again some time.

Objectively speaking, you'd think the second game was the best one. The arenas are more alive, it has more characters (although the new ones stink, so...), it supports four players, it has more weapons, but it just loses some of the magic along the way for me.

A good week for me. I got the physical version of Worms WMD on Switch (from Super Rare Games) yesterday. I was waiting for that one to be released and despite liking the company on Facebook and signing up to their mailing list, I somehow missed the announcement! I managed to order one of the last copies within moments of it selling out (phew). And as they're a UK company, I only had to wait a few days for it.

Today, I got Dark Souls Remastered on the Switch and Soul Calibur VI on the PS4 in the post. I've been looking forward to both!
