I've dumped hundreds of hours into both of those games. Nice picks.

Edit: Oh, PS3. That doesn't work anymore :(

Yeah, I know, but they were both gifts from prfsnl_gmr, and FF14 still makes for a neat addition to the shelf even if the servers are down. Also something great to point to when I go on my rant against online-only games.

FFXIV is still going strong, it's just the PS3 version that had support ramped down (and players were offered a free upgrade to a PS4 license). Not sure if they needed to actually convert account data, or if it's like XI was and you could just log in with whatever client you wanted (only Windows support is still available for that).

FFXIV is still going strong on other platforms, but the PS3 servers were shut down last year.

The servers aren't platform specific. Like XI before it, console and PC players all play together. Account data is account data. Looking into it, same as with XI, you can buy the game for multiple platforms and log into the same account. Discontinuing the PS3 version removed that option as a client, which was likely a hurdle for some players, but technically not the end of anyone's actual accounts/etc.

This sounded a lot like "You can't play on PS3" to me since it requires a subscription and they were suspending the PS3-only subscriptions.

Right, you can no longer play on PS3, as the client isn't being updated anymore. You can, however, continue to play the same account(s) on the same server(s) via PC or PS4. I think SE was simply trying to avoid charging anyone that they didn't see evidence of having anything but the PS3 version, since that'd likely result in some legal issues about charging for a service they can't use.

+1

That’s why I have a copy of the game, and why I didn’t mind using another for packing material!

I love the original Collector's Edition artwork of FFXIV:

Amano should just keep doing all the game covers.

And yeah, it would be great if all MMO's had like a single-player hack and slash mode.
