As one example is Xenoblade. I first saw the game at E3 2009 in a short trailer for a game called Monando Begining of the World. I wanted to know more but like Cosmic Walker NOA just never said anything after that. As many of you know the game wasn't even going to be released in NA. Operation Rainfall began and with Xenoblade, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower eventually did release in NA thanks to passionate fans. I bought all three from Gamestation (RIP) in the UK online store and had them shipped overseas. When they were released in the US I re-bought TLS and XB. I loved Xenoblade so much it was the first time since 2004 I put in a long gaming session. 19 hours. I finished the game and started again. I beat the game 3-4 times within 2 years and not done that since Ys and before that Grandia II. I've been hooked on the series since. What I love most are the huge and imaginative worlds.
These games remind me why I so fucking love this medium. Fun and great imagination. IMO too many games focus on recreating something that exists but I play games to take me to worlds I can only dream of like a Reading Rainbow kid. Seeing the Mechonis above me for the first time in the first game took my breath away like Berlin in Top Gun. XCX let me explore a massive alien planet with mechs and it was glorious. XC2 recreates that feeling with the first game except with the Titans you were running around on. Seeing their heads move around thousands of feet up in the distance is something that makes it more amazing. The music in these games is fantastic. I even enjoyed X's a good deal. I'm not always a huge fan of the character designs but always find everything else fantastic. It's a series that enraptures me every time I turn one of the games on.
