Which developers or studios would be cool for retrospective?

by racketboy Sat May 27, 2017 12:01 pm

Trying to think ahead for articles...
Which developers or studios would make for interesting historical articles?

I'd quite to like to write about any of the following studios:

Treasure
Rare (particularly N64 era)
Natsume (pre-split)

Since I'm sure people will mention the obvious Japanese studios, some PC suggestions:

Origin Systems
id Software
Maxis
Sierra OnLine
Lucasarts
Epic Games

I think Compile would be cool since the old games Compile made and the newer Compile Heart games have some pretty stark contrasts in style.

Factor 5 I think would be a must, especially as it appears in very recent news they may be coming back.

Technos - in totality, not just Kunio
Nicalis - best known for Cave Story, but there's so much more few are aware of

WARP

Kenji Eno was a maverick for sure. The balls it took to do this publicly to Sony at their own conference ...

Enemy Zero began life on Sony's PlayStation. Its unveiling at the 1996 PlayStation Expo in Tokyo was described by journalists as the highlight of the show.[5] Irritated by Sony's failure to meet even a third of preorders for the PlayStation version of D, at a Sony conference Kenji Eno made a shocking move. Eno showed a preview of Enemy Zero. At the end of the clip the PlayStation logo appeared, but slowly transitioned into the Sega Saturn logo.

Sure, there's more mainstream retrospective articles to write. This one is obscure but deserves attention. Any Saturn or old school video game horror fan knows of the Laura trilogy. Unfortunately, Eno passed a couple years back. This would make a unique piece.

Capcom. To me, it's basically one of the majors like Nintendo or Sony just without ever making a major console. They've been around forever and have had success, failure, and have evolved enough to be relevant today.

Warp, SuperWarp, and Kenji Eno have actually been well-covered. Eno was always ready to talk and was famous (and notorious) for bucking the "way things are done" in Japan.
