69. Yakuza 0 (PS4)Yakuza 0 is another good reminder for why I love games and play them. This was an experience and adventure that no other medium can deliver. One of the best stories and cast of characters I've ever seen in anything. I got completely sucked into this one and put about 72 hours in it, still might play more with adventure mode unlocked now. I jumped into the series at Yakuza 3 (yes, a very weird and tough starting point) which I liked a fair bit, and then played Yakuza 4 earlier this year which I liked even more. But Yakuza 0 blows them both out of the water. It features the best level up system, the best combat options, the coolest side content with the deep business modes, it's everything I loved about 3-4 refined to perfection. Even long time fans that have run through the whole series are claiming this is the best one. There's nothing I love more when a good Japanese series can change its tone at the flip of a dime, very similar to Metal Gear Solid's 4th wall breaking or jokey humor at times, Yakuza 0 is both one of the funniest games I have ever played and one of the most emotionally dramatic and intense. It's amazing to see a young brash Kiryu here and he's still my favorite character, but I think I'm walking away believing that Majima Goro was the main star of this installment. I cannot wait to venture through the rest of the series and see how their history intertwines and everything develops. Yakuza 6 is one of my most anticipated releases of 2018 and thanks to Yakuza 0 striking gold this year even with the mainstream and new fans, I hope this makes Sega give us Kiwami 2 and potentially HD releases or remasters of the other games. For now, I feel like I can jump into Kiwami right away. This has become another new favorite series of mine.
On a random note, I love how similar these games are to Mega Man Legends and I just played both of those. Really cool action/adventure/RPG hybrids with awesome hub worlds that become your second home.
