I know this is in reference to something else, but I'm going to assume this is referring to a copy of Sonic 1 for Genesis so you can play it and refute Bone's opinion on it in the post just above yours. It's a much more awesome narrative.

That was basically my line of thinking when I read that as well.

Hahaha stranger things have happened.

Reminds me, I was in GameStop just last night and the clerk was trying to convince me to order a copy of Luigi's Mansion. Yes, for GameCube.

It's pretty fast once you know the levels and physics well, and there are not so obvious shortcuts in some of the slowest levels. The sequels are more accessible in that regard though. I already plugged my flow improving hacks of 1 and 2 in the hacks thread so I won't mention them again.

Well, they do have retro product... or it could just be an order from back in the day from FuncoLand or something, right? Dang, I miss FuncoLand. Never had one near me, but the prices on most of the games in the mail order section were always really good.

Speaking of Sonic, the first game is fun enough, and I actually play it quite a bit slower, almost like a Mario game. But I've also never really been a fan of the series overall. Even the best games, at least to me, just top out at "very good". My favorite "Sonic" game isn't really one at all, it's Freedom Planet. ;)

159) Rise of the Tomb Raider - Lara's Nightmare (PS4) (DLC)
160) Titanfall 2 (PS4)
161) Soul Blade (PSX)

The only problem with Titanfall 2 is that there's not more of it. At least for a single player. It's fast, frenetic, and fun. It also contains a surprising amount of platforming, which is always welcome. And without spoiling things, there are two very fun sequences that change how you play the game. One replaces your stealth mechanic with something else entirely, and the other is... well, it's just flat-out cool. Some Person of Interest-level stuff going on, if any of y'all watched that show.

Controlling the mechs feels good. You only actually have the one in the campaign, but you get to change the loadout. My favorite was the Brute set with the four-rocket volley and the "death from above" special. Sometimes, the default comes in handy, too. It can be tough to land the rockets from a distance, so you can swap to something else. The sniper one is pretty good, too. My brother preferred the laser-based setup.

My general strategy in most firefights while on foot was to run around like a chicken with my head cut off, dashing all over the place. I'd engage stealth whenever available, just long enough to dash in some more and shotgun dudes in the face. Or punch them across a room. That works, too. The combat is just ridiculous, and really does support a wide variety of play styles.

Anyway, this game deserves a lot more sales than it's apparently getting. It's really, really good. And this is coming from a person that doesn't play a lot of first-person shooters. If I had to tell the truth, I had a wee bit more fun overall with Rise of the Tomb Raider, but the concentration of excellence in Titanfall 2 is hard to ignore. 9/10.

I also decided to play a few fighters on PSX. I tried to beat Soul Blade before heading off to sing in the choir Christmas special, but got hung up on Cervantes and had to dash. I wasn't letting that zombie pirate get the better of me. I finally got him down once I learned to block a little more. Then the last boss was a relative cinch. Took me a lot less tries. It would also have helped if I were using a controller that had a passable d-pad. I use a Logitech wireless PS2 controller, and most of the time it's better than the Dual Shock... except with games that require fast input on the d-pad. I have got to find that old cheap Performance digital pad I used to use. That thing was friggin' awesome for fighters.

Nice! I beat that one myself this year back in January. It still holds up, though it's an easy game to beat it you just cheese the AI into getting knocked out of the ring. Still it's a AAA fighter for its platform.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that, I guess I just got tired of typing. :P It's a very good-looking game for the platform, and plays a lot more smoothly than you'd expect. I'd honestly forgotten I even had the game, and always thought it was probably pretty clunky, but not really! You can totally see the Soul Calibur foundation here.

I remember you beating it earlier this year. I also remember your impressions being very favorable, which is why I picked it up while digging through my PSX games. :)

Agreed on Soul Blade being top notch for the PSX. Very impressive stuff. Such a shame Soul Caliber kind of turned into dooky. Soul Blade, and Caliber 1-2 were amazing.

Glad you enjoyed Titanfall 2 Sarge! Pardon me just glancing over your monster list, but did you play Doom 4? I like Doom more than Titanfall 2 by a bit, but both are incredible home runs for new first person shooter campaigns and they both excel greatly in terms of control and movement. They just feel amazing to play.

I think Black Friday week and other deals have boosted its sales a lot. The player base online seems to be growing and their attitude of giving us all free DLC in terms of gameplay (maps, new loadout stuff, etc so the player base is never split) is awesome. They're adding a shop for micro transactions/cosmetics. Not my thing, but I love this game so much and their attitude in how they've handled everything, that I might buy some stuff for the heck of it! Also nobody is caring about CoD it seems. I don't think it was nominated once for anything on the 2016 Game Awards? Titanfall 2 has rightfully stolen that thunder. I think Respawn do want to make a third game if possible. It's nice that they own the IP rather than EA.

DOOM 4 is on my list to pick up pretty soon. I have more of an appreciation of the series after having finally gone through the first two games. :)

I still love 3 as well, if you plan to hit that one up. Expect more of a FEAR / Bioshock kind of thing and hopefully you'll dig it.

I'd personally say Doom 3 is somewhere in between Bioshock and FEAR. Bioshock having a fantastic story but really lame shooting, and FEAR having fucking brilliantly satisfying shooting and surprisingly smart AI while only a decently compelling/scary story. Doom 3 has a weaker (or at least less well paced, but only marginally) than FEAR, but the shooting is way better than Bioshock. Doom 3 has personally never kept me hooked enough to go through to the end, but that's just the kind of gamer I am. It takes a truly special game to keep me going on just shooting mans/demons alone with basically no story.
