While I enjoyed the gameplay, honestly I'd prefer this game's plot told through an anime.

An anime of Baroque would make Evangelion's story look as straight forward as A New Hope's.

Yakuza 5 down! easily the best one since 4, haha...for real, spent like 85 hours & loved it all, even if the cliffhanger ending was meaner than 3's.

literally cannot wait for Zero!

Does that mean it's Zero as in referring to the Japanese tendency to use "Zero" to indicate a futuristic setting? (Such as in, F-Zero being a futuristic version of F-1 racing). Or is Zero a prequel, as the title would imply (to me)?

It's a prequel this time, lol.

I'll probably get to Yakuza 4 sometime by the end of the year myself.

^do it! 4's still possibly my favorite of the series, it's just so awesome & breaks things up a bit introducing some really cool new characters.

and im still not over how hyped i am for getting a physical release on 0 in january! i'm told Kiwami (the remake of part 1 that i'm still hoping gets localized one day) has some changes from the original based on what goes down in 0, making the latter the perfect jump-on point for new fans.

That's right. Floppy disk Zelda II.

I've beaten this game three times now, working backwards. GBA, NES, and now the original FDS version.

I'm getting better at it. Finished with seven lives this time, and zero Game Overs.

Compared to the first Zelda, the FDS vs. NES region differences here are much more pronounced. In the FDS game sprites are different, palaces have a much more drab appearance, bosses behave differently (and one has been flat-out replaced), no enemies are immune to physical attacks, music is a bit tinnier, and there's a pretty amusing jab at Dragon Quest thrown into the mix.

Given its year of release (1987) this is a pretty strong game, and one of the better sidescrolling RPGs at the time. While I found the challenge off-putting in the past, I welcomed it this time and found that it suits the game nicely. You certainly have to work for things here.

That said, the XP/save system in this game is horrid (not to mention the Game Over penalty, apparently) and severely punishes anyone who chooses not to play in very long stretches. I'd choose the NES or GBA ports (where the save system is still pretty bad, sadly) over this one for that reason. Not that anyone here was jonesing to play any FDS games.

Anyhow, fun experience but glad I have this out of the way. I do plan to do back-to-back FDS/NES Metroid and Castlevania II in the future. Perhaps I'll return to Kid Icarus someday was well, though I truly did not enjoy that game during my first couple of attempts.

My understanding is the difference in how the save/game over system works in Zelda II is between the Japanese and English releases, rather than cart vs. FDS.
