Dungeon Master
Eye of the Beholder
Soul Blazer
Wizardry V

If you own Soul Blazer, but haven't played it yet, dude... make that a priority pronto.

I actually don't own Soul Blazer yet. I'm a little surprised you didn't immediately say Brandish, considering how often you push the title. As for Eye of the Beholder, I'm hesitant only in that I'm not sure how close the game is to the PC version. If it's a direct port with little change(and from what I've read, it is), I may just play the PC version instead so I can move the party into Eye of the Beholder 2 since I'd like to also give that game a shot sometime. Wizardry V is what I expect to be my final game in this little jaunt.

I believe Eye of the Beholder and Might & Magic III are SNES mouse compatible, but the other WRPGs are not.

Yeah, that was pretty awesome. And the ending came really close to being almost as upsetting as the sequel's. Even though it made things "better," it's still kind of messed up.

I push the PSP remake of Brandish, sure. That one is amazing.

I don't push the SNES original Brandish though, because while it's a great concept, it's a great concept poorly executed.

That's unfortunate that Dungeon Master doesn't support the mouse. I'm looking at the Mobygames page and the JP release was in '91, so it makes sense that it wouldn't (mouse was '92). I wonder if they tweaked the gameplay any to support the controller. Was it slowed down any?

Unfortunately I don't know. I can't find any info on what changes were made to the various ports, if any. Even HG101 doesn't have anything on it, despite mentioned the game several times in articles about other WRPGs.

Yep. The remake really allows the game design to shine through. Playing through the original version had to be rather tedious. I'll probably never play through its sequel on SNES, either.

Then I guess we'll depend on you to document it for us and the internet.

The only differences I've found about the SNES version are:

"SNES: The SNES version is the only one that has an introduction sequence. It also has music during the game." - http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/247

As for its speed, this GameFAQs reader review says:

"For starters, you have a cursor. It moves slowly across the screen. You need to use it to execute nearly every command. It's very cumbersome. There are shortcuts for certain commands, but they're difficult to use in themselves, in fact so much so that the cursor is preferable. There's also a “move mode” where you can press the D-Pad for movement, but this renders the cursor unusable until you leave move mode. This makes acting on your feet almost impossible, and with real time going while you're trying to do this, it can be deadly." - http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/588299-dun ... iews/94492

Oh my, that sounds awful. Like, I doubt you'd be able to pull off the move in, attack, move back to avoid counter attack shuffle that's so key in Dungeon Master games.

Heh, oh well. Could be worse. Apparently Wizardry V's SNES port changes how NPC dialog is handled. This results in the player being unable to ask vital questions about the final puzzle, rendering it basically unsolvable without a guide.

Well guys, I just ran the USA SNES version of Dungeon Master in SNES9X, and verified the game does not support the SNES mouse. Most unfortunate, but as expected.
