It never will, Sarge; you have transcended humanity and attained godhood.

Ha, more like I've got a few areas where I'm really good (or dedicated), and a whole lot where I suck. I'd still get owned in FPS, RTS, and probably a lot of sports games. I know Exhuminator would destroy me at any FPS, he's good!

EDIT: Ha, ninja'd! Yes, Exhuminator, you are the FPS god around here. :)

(I am playing a bit of Jedi Knight right now, by the way.)

Sooo Bravely Second. I was a HUGE fan of the original Bravely Default, and while my feelings are mixed on Bravely Second, let me preface with this - this is a DAMN good JRPG. Bravely Default/Second is basically what Final Fantasy used to be back when it was good. You know, before it turned into Dude Bros Drive Cross-Country Simulator 2016. That, however, is neither here nor there.

Image
Dude, where's my car?

Bravely Second takes just about everything that was good about Bravely Default and makes it better. Most of the job classes that you learned to love in the first game return as well as a few additional ones. Some, like the Yokai class, are super cool. Some, like the Patissier class, are....interesting. Personally, I think it's a fucking stupid job, but that's just this Saltine's opinion.

Image
It's like a fucking fashion show.

My overall complaint about the game is extremely subjective and extremely general; it just overall wasn't as interesting to me as the original game. When I first played Bravely Default, I couldn't put the game down. With Bravely Second, however, while it really didn't do anything wrong, I had to put it down for a couple weeks because I just got....bored. Like, I don't know why. It just didn't hold my interest like the first game did. I don't know why. Maybe it didn't add enough to the formula. It's by no means a bad game. On the contrary, it's one of the best JRPGs that Square-Enix has put out in the past few years. I just got tired of it.

I'm not going to go into too much depth here since I went through the system itself when I reviewed the "Ballad of the Three Cavaliers" demo a month or so ago. If you want to read more about my views on that, go back a page or two or twenty or whatever and read that.

I was shocked at how useful the Patissier was, actually. In concept, yeah, it's stupid, but mechanically it's quite good.

I suspect the reason it didn't grab you as much is that there wasn't much discovery if you played the first one. Since there's only a handful of new areas it basically comes down to the story beats.

I don't really understand why people use "fashion show" as a complaint for games like Bravely Default or Final Fantasy X-2. If I can change how my character looks in a game, whether it's through what job they are, what armor they're wearing, what form they're in, that adds a real layer of immersion for me. In real life I don't wear EXACTLY the same outfit all the time, and I hate it when newer games don't change anything about your character when you change equipment (I can understand not animating every item of clothing onto every character, but weapons changing is pretty reasonable for RPG's nowoadays, I think).

Yeah, the clothes changing was far from being one of X-2's main problems.

So I just finished God of War 2 and the ending is one of the worst cock teases in video game endings ever, way worse than Halo 2. I have God of War 3 ready to go, but it's not the end, what a shit!

It's not like Kratos or that franchise' story can offer anything interesting or good anyways. :P

I thought 3 was pretty crappy compared to the first two. Prepare for far more "cinematic" sections and QTE's.

During the final fight, I got to the last part of the game, where, what I thought a cutscene started playing. I was not paying attention and I died. I had to redo the entire fight (which took like 10 minutes) all over again. That kind of stuff is pretty annoying.

I will be taking a break before I get into GoW3, tired on the formula for now.
