I finished Megadimension Neptunia VII last night with the normal ending. I immediately started New Game+ and am working towards the true ending.

Only one I've beaten this year is Batman:Arkham Knight.

No worries, I haven't beaten more than a couple. The main games I have focused on are either really long or multiplayer games that don't really have an end point.

That said, I am getting there with Rites of War. On level 22 of 24.

I've just spent a fortnight in Malaysia and was dying to get into some XCOM2 as soon as I got home but cdkeys.com are shit and I've now been waiting for over 24 hours for a key... I'd rather have spent the extra 9 quid.

Sooo... I finished off Hero Siege whilst I waited. It's a top down cross between Smash TV and Diablo... which sounds ace but it's actually pretty dull. I enjoy the loot and relic system but the gameplay is dull, badly balanced and not fun repetitive in the way ARPGs should be. I only completed the normal run through as I don't really see the point in getting to the endgame content or want to complete it 3 more times.

So to recap:

I picked this rougelikelite game up in a steam sale at some point for super cheap and never played it. After only 3 runs I'd finished. It's a nice little idea, top down side scrolling RPG and you really just need to make as much cash as you can and buy a very strong weapon. Sadly too easy to recommend to anyone really.

Xillia is my first Tales game. Well, first completed Tales game, I've played a few hours of Phantasia but never beat it. Anyway, I finished Xillia with both characters in 52 hours and honestly had a blast.

The battle system, which is active and fast paced, never gets old. You can freely control your character on the battlefield and unleash basic combos on enemies. You also unlock artes - physical and magical special attacks - as you level up, and you can set these artes to 8 positions on the joysticks (12 with an item you can find later in the game) to use them. Thankfully you can swap them mid battle from the menu if you need something specific.

Party members can link in this one as well, and doing so changes your combos and gives you access to linked artes, powerful combined artes that do a significant amount of damage and can be used at certain points as you fill a link gauge. Maxing out the link gauge puts you into the Overlimit mode, where you can freely use Linked artes for a brief time, or activate Mystic Artes, which serve as each character's most powerful attack.

Every character also has a set of skills to unlock, some of which are character specific and some generic, that seriously enhance your abilities. The two mage type characters for instance, whom already have a huge pool of points for using artes, can get skills that restore those points with each kill they make, and they can reach a level where points will be restored faster than they can be spent.

There's tons of options to power everyone up and every character is unique and fun to play as, though you won't get bored with either of the two main characters if you never decide to switch.

The story is pretty good, and the nature of the conflict is a bit more complicated than simply good guys vs. bad guys, which is appreciated. There's not much difference between the stories of the main characters though. You'll get all of the finer points on one play through, but a second run with the opposing character will give you a different perspective on some events. I felt it was worth it, but I wouldn't say its required. For the record, I played with Milla first, then Jude.

I didn't complete every side quest, but I did just about everything else, including clearing the coliseum, getting the party to level 99, clearing the optional dungeon Magnus Zero, and all optional bosses save for one, which I only skipped because getting to it involved a lengthy mcguffin collecting quest that I wasn't interested in doing because lazy. The Golden Mage Knight boss at the end of Magnus Zero is more difficult anyway, so I certainly didn't miss a challenge.

Anyway, it was a great game and well worth the time spent. I'm planning on playing the sequel at some point this year as well.

Still not sure if I should try out Xillia or Zesteria next for my Tales quest... I'm hoping to actually finish them one of these days. I think Graces F was good, but the cooking/leveling system was micromanagement hell and killed it for me.
