I just looked this up and apparently I already own it? Man Steam sales are like some sort of drug-induced stupor or I am sleepbuying games.

Haha, if you got the FMV Humble Bundle that got discussed on here a month or so ago (I think Popo was the one who convinced me to buy it with Her Story which I literally just finished), then it was part of that. If you've got an hour to spare, play through. I promise, you will NOT regret it.

46. XG3: Extreme G Racing|GameCube|2001|racer|1h 35m|7/10

Finished all the cups on default difficulty, only took about an hour and a half.

If you enjoy fast paced futuristic racing, XG3: Extreme G Racing is worth checking out. Its greatest strength is a sense of blistering speed over twisty turny and sometimes loopy tracks. XG3 also incorporates weapons and is essentially combat racing, but the actual weapons and combat bits are lackluster and barely even useful. There aren't very many tracks but what's here are decently designed courses with the occasional sense of vertigo. XG3 has a pumping electronic OST that would make any late 90s euroraver proud. Graphically XG3 is no slouch with convincing backgrounds and textures, but the character and bike models aren't very complex. Overall XG3 is a solid one night stand for a future racing genre aficionado with a GameCube. But in that regard, XG3 doesn't measure up to the almighty F-Zero GX by a mile.

1/22 Emily Is Away (PC)

1/31 Rise of the Tomb Raider - Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch (XB1)
2/2 Dishonored - The Knife of Dunwall (XB1)

Games Beaten = 3
DLC = 3

2/16 MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT (PC)
Man, I enjoyed the heck out of this game! You play as freshly murdered detective Ronan O'Connor, a vengeful ghost, fixed on figuring out who killed him before he can move on to the afterlife. Lots of internal monologuing, very hamfisted hardboiled detective noir tropes. It's the best I've seen with solving-a-mystery gameplay. You have a defined area where you're trying to figure something out and you have a counter on how many clues are in that area. Some of the clues you will reveal a past memory in the area, some will just be clues lying around, and still others will be ones you get from the living people, possessing them and doing a mind read or a peek over their shoulder. Once you find the clues you "conclude the investigation" and you have to choose 2 to 4 clues that are relevant to the central thing you're trying to figure out and then a cutscene will play if you get it right. The world was well realized and a lot of fun to poke around in. There are little clues outside of the investigation things that delve into Ronan's past and give flesh to the character. There are also a couple of fun/intense action areas where you have to stealthily avoid demons and if you choose to exorcise the ghost that is controlling them. Another fun thing that just adds to the atmosphere.

I was so excited upon finishing this game that I immediately went to figure out what else Airtight Games had worked on, only to find they shuttered a mere month after releasing this gem. So sad. They also worked on Dark Void, I'm definitely gonna go back and check that out.

Whelp, I cleared all the "story mode" stuff in SFV, which was super easy (I never lost a match) and, frankly, kinda boring. I guess there's a more substantive story mode coming in a few months?

In any case, I really like the SFV fighting engine and the majority of the new characters, but I haven't gotten good enough to really do anything online. Everything seems faster/more fluid than SFIV, which is a huge positive I think. Vs. play on the couch and the "survival" mode are both pretty fun, and I expect to be dipping into this game with regularity over the next couple of years.

Oh, and being able to use my PS3 TE stick is a huge plus - thank goodness they built in legacy controller support!

1. Oni - PC
2. Donkey Kong 64 - N64
3. Yoshi's Story - N64
4. Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide - PC
5. Forsaken 64 - N64
6. Bloodrayne: Betrayal - PSN
7. Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu - SNES
8. Fire Emblem Shin Monshō no Nazo: Hikari to Kage no Eiyū - Nintendo DS
9. Valkyria Chronicles 3 - PSP
10. Ready 2 Rumble Boxing - DC
11. Rise of the Tomb Raider - PC
12. XCOM 2 - PC
13. Shadowrun Hong Kong Bonus Campaign - PC

This was a short campaign that was a stretch goal on the original Kickstarter. It's set immediately after the events of the main game and ties up a couple of loose ends. It also demonstrates that the game isn't really balanced for high Karma play; all the "tough" fights consisted of throwing tons and tons of dudes into the meat grinder of my party.

There's not really a lot to say about this; it consists of three story missions and two side missions, all of about the same length as the individual missions of the main game. Since it comes for free for everyone who already has Hong Kong there's no reason not to play it.

Not sure how I missed this post! I just went back and checked, and it looks like I went with 0.10 alpha. I made sure I got past the part that froze on me before, so I know that version works.

34) Doom 2

So yeah, I finally finished that playthrough of Doom 2. I had been inching through it on lunch breaks at work, while my coworker was working through it as well. But he finished it a while back, and I just kinda forgot. I picked it back up, and decided to bring the save file home so I could finish it tonight.

Really, I like the original better. Now, there are some interesting weapons I like this time, but the atmosphere isn't quite as good, and there's just so many "gotcha" moments that I was wired to expect them by the end of it. "Okay, which wall's gonna open now to unleash unholy terror on me?" I save-scummed the mess out of the final battle, although that's not undoable if you can maintain a touch of crowd control, usually best accomplished through using the BFG9000. I always saved right before the pillar ascended so I made sure I'd get that missile shot in on the last boss, though. Just three good shots and it's done. It might be different on other difficulties, I was just on the default, which is still plenty tricky.

Anyway, that's another classic down. Now I need to catch up to said coworker and beat Duke Nukem 3D, although I'm more tempted to let him try Dark Forces and play that. :)

Okay, I'll grab that version, thanks. I'm currently using the latest version of SSF, but occasionally it does freeze up outta nowhere. There are so many different settings in SSF who knows which one would actually fix the issue, but it's not a show stopper. Other than that though, SSF emulates amazingly well.

And dude, if he hasn't played through Dark Forces, he ought to. Like, now, immediately.

So I haven't been on the boards here in a while but I just completed Army Men: RTS and felt like sharing.

Image

I really enjoyed the Army Men games as a kid, and I loved this one when it came out. I recently bought it again on Gamecube and was surprised to find it had more missions and gold medals actually unlocked things. I think it plays pretty well for a console RTS, but the AI is pretty bad. I really like the game overall though so it was fun to go through and get gold on everything.

I think I'll try to start hanging around here more again. I'm glad to hear good things about Murdered: Soul Suspect. Got for around $3 at a Gamestop a couple months ago.
