Also his condemnation of Paper Mario. Just...wow.

There's actually several things on that list that make me think he must be playing on some sort of super PAL version where everything is slowed down to 10 FPS.

Ooh, those charts look much better than mine. Nice work!

Yeah, being disappointed in Super Metroid and Super Mario World might be pretty unpopular. Still, considering how highly those games have been built up, one could be disappointed yet still find them fantastic games.

(For the record, I really like Super Metroid, but think Super Mario World is weaker than SMB3.)

I didn't even notice the Super Mario World in there! My eyes instantly saw Super Metroid and the self destruct sequence initiated.

I am going to back up the lukewarm Super Mario World love. Beat it last year and found it to be alright. This is, of course coming from the perspective of playing and beating every single Mario game (New Super Mario Bros. 2 on 3DS excluded) before that. I understand a person coming into a lot of the super nintendo games late in life after experiencing a lot of similarly-style modern games and coming away with a moderate reaction.

Yoshi's Island, however, is god-tier.

Super Metroid is fine, I just don't like it as much as I apparently should. I much prefer SotN, and would instantly go back to it over revisiting Super Metroid.

As a kid, I had a friend who owned an NES with SMB and Gotcha!; I always wanted to play Gotcha!--. Other than Mario Sunshine, nothing about Mario platform games has ever been compelling to me. Revisiting them now, I just tend to also hate how they play. Yoshi's Island is great, though. I actually loved that game when I had it, briefly, in my youth.

I've continually forgotten that I even played Paper Mario this year, or that it's a game that exists.

Yep, judging by my plays of SotN, I favor it by a wide margin. I'm probably in the double digits on playthroughs by now.

4. Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War (PC)(Strategy)
5. Shadowrun: Dragonfall (PC)(RPG)
6. Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss (PC)(RPG)
7. Drakkhen (SNES)(RPG)
8. Flight of the Amazon Queen (PC)(Point and Click Adventure)
9. Shadowgrounds: Survivor (PC)(Top-Down Shooter)
10. Lufia & The Fortress of Doom (SNES)(RPG)
11. BioShock (PC)(FPS)
12. Jeopardy! Sports Edition (SNES)(Game Show Sim)
13. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (PC)(FPS)
14. Thief Gold (PC)(Stealth)
15. Call of Duty 2 (PC)(FPS)
16. Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra (PC)(RPG)
17. Alone in the Dark (PC)(Survival Horror)
18. Silent Hill (PS1)(Survival Horror)
19. Sanitarium (PC)(Point-and-Click Adventure/Horror)
20. Gauntlet: Slayer Edition(PC)(Hack and Slash)
21. Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES)(Fighting)
22. Ultima II (PC)(RPG)

31. Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi (PC)(Survival Horror)
32. Crusaders of Might and Magic (PC)(RPG)
33. Shadow Man (PC)(Action)

Here is the breakdown by console/PC:

PC: 24
SNES: 6
PS1: 1
NGPC: 1
MVS: 1

Breakdown by genre:

RPG: 12
FPS: 5
Survival Horror: 3(with 2 other games also being horror titles)
Point and Click Adventure: 2
Action: 2
Run and Gun: 2
Top-Down Shooter: 1
Hack and Slash: 1
Fighting: 1
Strategy: 1
Puzzle: 1
Game Show Sim: 1
Stealth: 1(admittedly this was Thief and could be counted as Action/Adventure)

I mainly played PC games, and I focused heavily on RPGs this year. Huh.

The average year for a game to come out that I beat this year is approximately 1999. The oldest game I beat was Ultima II, from 1982. The newest game I beat was DOOM, from 2016.
