Can I recommend E.T.? Despite its reputation, it is a pretty solid game (assuming you aren't too lazy to learn how to play it).

ET's biggest problem is how damn confusing it is. You're right, though, once you figure out what you're supposed to do and what haphazard assemblage of pixels represents what, it's an okay game. Not a great game, IMO, but certainly not worth the infamy it's earned.

Also, if yall haven't tried Halo 2600, you should. I got it on a 2600 cartridge on AtariAge, and it's actually REALLY good. It plays a lot like Berzerk, and that's always a good thing.

Here's another.

Senjyo (Arcade)

You are a base gunner out to destroy tanks and all sorts of flying objects. Big chances to get tons of points through a multiplier system.

Now you might ask why I'd suggest an arcade game as a game here. Because you can play it here -

Tecmo Classic Arcade on the original Xbox. It's also got Swimmer, another recommended title, and you can play Solomon's Key with us later this year for Together Retro.

I never played the arcade version of Solomon's Key so that might give me an excuse.

Speaking of that... Fire N Ice (NES). Nuff said.

I'll second Fire 'n Ice. In Japan, it was known as Solomon's Key 2!

I highly recommend that compilation. It also contain Strato Fighter, a pretty solid shmup that didn't get any console ports back in the day. Also worth playing is Pleiads, which is something of a sequel to Phoenix.

I miss this thread. I know I said I was gonna quit it.

But, but, I lied. I want to see this thread become 100 pages of insanity.

Because somebody has to tell you folks about such dandies as...

BCV: Battle Construction Vehicles | PS2 | 2000-2003

This is a fighting game, except instead of using your fists, you use construction vehicles. Yep, I'm not joking.

The game was only released in Europe and Japan. It was also one of the first PlayStation 2 titles to be released in DVD-ROM format, rather than CD-ROM as most early PS2 titles were. You can play the English PAL version on a USA PS2 if you use some tricks. (If you need help with the tricks ask on the Sony section.)

And while we're talking about construction vehicles...

Power Shovel | PS1 | 2001

Step up and take charge of the POWER SHOVEL. You're the "New Guy" on site with a piece of heavy equipment and a crazy foreman. Do a great job, earn lots of money and go shopping! Do a bad job and you'll hear it from the boss. You won't just be doing grunt work like moving dirt though, there's mini-games and cars to smash for starters.

I use to run tournaments of BCV, until people figured out the Bee was so overpowered it was unbeatable.

We went back to Jackie Chan in Fists of Fire

I am impressed that you knew about that one. For all the wacky Japanese PS2 games I know about, I haven't done enough research on the PAL PS2 market yet. I only found out about BCV about two weeks ago.
