Giving this thread a well needed bump.

Looks like we finally have some more true Android TV options outside of Shield ($50 & $75 options) ... not cheapo Android devices running the tablet OS.

Some gaming at the 11m30s mark.

I've also been wanting a RTS on my phone without a ton of IAP and not requiring me to be online. Rusted Warfare looks great. Command & Conquer inspired.

I had this $5 premium android/ios game pointed out to me a little earlier ago and I'm impressed.
https://www.pockettactics.com/reviews/pocket-city/

Basically what you have here is a wannabe Sim City in the better ways possible about it. It does have an IAP like energy sort of meter though but it's for XP as you build out, so you have really build and not just ride the date out to get better tech and options which is a nice twist earning greater things.

Pocket City seems pretty solid if you're an old school Sim City fan.

One of my favorites is not a well known game - Chaos Rings III, it has a playstyle similar to final fantasy on a PC and some epicness
For an android game i always look out for the epicness and something innovative. Played through a lot of clicker games just to see the same development pattern unfold :C

When the numbers going up is a nice part of the games, i love the concept more and the lore which is very rare for an android games. I use my phone quite rarely for the gaming, last game i enjoyed was Fire Emblem: heroes.

I just very recently got into android gaming, it is a bit tricky trying to navigate through the sea of crappy games loaded with ads and endless microtransactions. There are definitely some great games if you have the patience to find them.

Right now I am playing Dan the Man, 16 bit style platformer beat em up, has super tight controls(at least as tight as can be on a touch screen), really fun gameplay, and lots of unlockable and optional content.

It is free to download, but doing so gives you the version with ads which means you have to watch ads at every checkpoint and when you find power ups, which is miserable. Going premium is only $2 and that will remove all ads from the game, which is definitely worth it. The game is a lot of fun and has a decent amount of content, definitely worth it for fans of the genre.

I also just finished Super DD, another 16 bit style platformer that has you navigating dungeons to find a key and then head to the exit, solid controls, good level variety, and a fair challenge. It is free to download, the ads are not very intrusive as they pop up every couple of levels and only last about 5 seconds, you can also just switch your device offline and then play the game with no ads at all.

Ok... I drafted this back in 2017 but realized I never posted it. My thoughts on this Android FPS with controller support:

Alright, I beat Neon Shadow. It is obvious these devs were fans of old school FPS and threw on a cyberpunk sci fi coat of paint. I was reading reviews and saw someone else say it reminded them if the original Quake as well. The smallest enemy definitely acts like dogs in Quake, but in NS, they throw them at you in packs and it gets rough bc once they're on you, they can cause damage quick. I've jumped the gun a bit...

NS is 8 main maps/episodes with a monster boss battle as episode 9. There are 3 levels of difficulty to chose from, I played the standard tier. You will traverse labyrinth of hallways with hordes of baddies. There's an attempt at a story here, but its light. Fight your way through kill everything. If you die, no mid level checkpoints. Back to square one of your current level. You'll have 4 weapons to fight your way through:
- Shotgun (unlimited ammo)
- Automatic Plasma Rifle (the M16 of space)
- Grenade Launcher (interesting physics & fun to use)
- DOOM BFG (Not quite, but definitely a nod to it)

Ammo is fairly readily available, but save your high power guns for the tougher enemies. In crowded fights, the grenade launcher & "BFG" can kill you easily so be careful. The "Quake dog" robots will constantly be on your heels while long range robots shoot fire projectiles at you (we'll call them "Imps"). The toughest enemy they throw at you are equivalent to the Cyberdemon in DOOM. They require a ton of hits to bring down and can bring you down in an instant. Be ready to face waves of all the enemies in the last boss battle.

Medical packs are available but not overused, still presenting a challenge. You start your next map with HP from previous so you can get yourself in a bind by finishing an episode with little health.

The episodes are fairly long. Once at the end of the road, you destroy a terminal and then traverse back through the map. New onslaughts of enemies will be on you as alarms sound and new passageways are open (no keys like DOOM).

It is obvious these devs were big DOOM fans. You even finish an episode by walking into a room and then stats are shown. They might have as well put a switch .

The music is ROCKING. It is a sort of hard techno hard. Again... modern DOOM influence.

My Bluetooth controller worked amazing for this game. Controller wasn't bolted on as an afterthought and it shows. This felt like a console FPS. There are also 3 graphics settings so you can bump it down if your device is struggling or throw it on high Tegra folks.

I did not try the online death match or LAN settings. This game supports two players playing split screen on an iPad. That's interesting.

What I would change:
- Have a paid version. While there at no IAP, the ads got old and I turned of WiFi. Apparently there was an ad free version for $2.99 a couple years back.
- Insert a level select. I can't go back and play previous episodes for fun. I have to start the game over (at least in a new profile slot). Odd choice there.

Overall, this is a very solid game and it's free. There are no human enemies so be ready to shoot a lot of robots. That didn't get old to me, but it may for some. You'll get 4 to 6 hours of gameplay out of this one depending on how often you die (no checkpoints!) and how quick too get your strategy down for the last boss.

Neon Shadow showed me an Android FPS can be done well.

Figured our resident Android gaming fans would enjoy my recent thread here:

Getting My Android Retro Game Emulation Right- w/Controller
http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 27&t=52798

Still using my Beboncool controller that was recommended in this thread! Anyone upgrade to a Steel controller? Best option for D pad, thumb sticks, & phone clip?

I've read the 8 bit duo controllers can be too top heavy with controller clips.

Any recs?

Been slammed with IRL stuff but been able to decompress a bit before bed with Shadowgun Legends which does support Bluetooth controllers very well.

Overall, I'm very impressed. It's been touted as Destiny Mobile. I spent $5 initially to unlock all the inventory slots which is really the only must IMO. Been leveling naturally & still very competitive in PvP. About to be in dungeon #3. Overall a fun lot & shoot/MMORPG FPS. I may do a dedicated write up at some point.

Interesting to see some quality mobile titles coming out. Thoughts?

I just found Diabloweb - Diablo 1 ported to web browser.
https://diablo.rivsoft.net/
It even runs perfectly in Chrome on my phone and tablet. Not only that, it offers to make a shortcut to itself, and can compress the full version's MPQ file to ~250 Megabytes.
This is a way better experience than how I used to play it (Qemu x86 emulator w/windows 95 hard drive image).
edit: After 4 other browsers and some "force immersive mode" apps I got it running full screen on Android TV by sideloading Opera, and choosing Fullscreen from the context menu.
