You can have some fun with Dungeon Hunter 5 for free. But if you want to really get far in it, some IAP will be necessary.

The best Diablo style games you can get on GooglePlay that I know of:

Chaos Rings is legit, if your device can still run it. Haven't gotten the third game.

Also, Romancing SaGa 2 is out there.

I actually got Diablo 1 running in Windows 95 in a PC Emulator (Bochs I think) on my Android phone. Takes forever to load at the beginning, and a little buggy, but it is playable.
Better to play the PS1 version tho.

No, what I mean is, sometimes it is the only way to get time to play. "I'm going to the bathroom, honey. See you in 15!" *tries to make progress in game in 15 min*

Yeah the ePSXe Android emulator is very solid. I did a little looking around and it seems a lot of folks say this is the best Diablo-clone on Android:

I haven't played it yet myself.

I stayed up too late last night playing The Executive. At first I thought the game was just a simplistic beat 'em up, which it is, but there are layers of depth there I didn't expect, as well as a crazy sense of humor.

You fight a random assortment of monsters:

With a combat engine that allows for attack and defense not unlike Zelda II's swordfighting with the knights did.

You can also level up your character as you see fit:

Aside from brawling there's some parkour platforming sections:

Definitely the funnest beat 'em up I've played in a long time, even reminds me of God Hand at times. Give it a couple levels to figure out the battle intricacies and gain a few useful powers, and you might agree. Great music too.

Bookmarked that set of two in the post after my last one with Titan Quest.

On Diablo 1 I have experience in that one in a few ways. Stock PC, PS1, and also Bezelbub HD a modern 720p upgrade of it using the core Diablo CD files/install.

Having done all of them, the last on the list is effective and pretty, runs nice. But, despite the stupid load times of the sluggish PSX I never was a big fan of the controls (though D2 refined it nice enough) so I always enjoyed the game pad play on PS1 most. Up until bezelbub HD, I'd gone farthest in the game on the PSX game.

Unless I'm just seeing lame drawn art on that googleplay page I don't see how a third person adventure mirrors Diablo best. Googlep,ay hasn't been letting me slide their images on here so maybe it is. But it also seems to be another IAP pay wall to proceed?

You want a really good Diablo clone of sorts? Shining Soul 1, but moreso 2 on the Gameboy Advance. Easily emulated perfectly on Android or cheap to buy.

one thing I'm really interested in is console ports to Android. Like Square has done a great job bringing all those Final Fantasies (including Tactics) and Secret of Mana and Dragon Quests to Android.

I played an Android game last night that changed my mind about a few things...

Not all free Android games are soul sucking IAP trash.
It is possible to have a touchscreen based platformer with controls that don't suck.

The game? Super Cat Bros:

If you enjoy platformers, cats, cute retro graphics, and great music, play this game.
