Yeah their big presentation in a few weeks is gonna be a blow out of info I feel. Also wondering when we will get the beta access for backers. If scans come out of the magazine please let me know asap.

Yeah, I think that's going to be the beginning of the big promotional push. European Amazons are starting to get pre-orders up for the August 27 release, so looks like it's really happening.
I will of course share scans here with spoiler tags if they do make their way onto the net. The owner of the Shenmue Dojo has found them somewhere (god knows where, because I've been looking. Unless he PMd someone he knows).
Either way, I'll try to buy the magazine anyways and own a scanner should there be nothing online by the time I pick it up.

That looks like a gorgeous issue. Will have to check my Barnes and Noble in a short while when it comes across the pond. Thanks for sharing!

Here's a transcript of their Shenmue III feature, courtesy of yours turly.
EDIT: I zoomed and squinted my failing eyes and manged to make out and complete the final blurb.

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter
This is so heartening to read. It truly sounds like the game will retain much of its original spirit and vision, but with some good modernizations. Sounds like they really ramped up the fighting engine. I’m not entirely sure about the affinity engine—as long as it’s not a bunch of fetch quests or laziness behind such systems I’ll be content.
Thanks for transcribing!

We've been discussing the affinity system a lot at the Shenmue Dojo and most of us believe it will be the natural evolution of, for example, things like the Fangmei birthday quest in Shenmue 2, as well other examples (e.g. getting to know Megami and feeding the kitten, helping the old lady at the beginning of the first game find a house and other side quests that would help you build a relationship with characters and would, in turn, aid you in your quest).
I believe it will all feel natural and organic within the world and is simply the case of Yu Suzuki building upon his aims of creating a living and breathing world.
In other news, it's not clear if this is final, placeholder or what, but this is the cover art that has been provided to retailers offering pre-orders:
(Edit: Okay, it has been pointed out that the background image has been out there since last year and the models have since improved, so it probably is placeholder)

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter
I'm glad people found my transcript useful. Those weren't detailed scans, but phone pictures, and not very well focused ones at that, but they got the job done in transferring the actual info in a jiffy, I suppose.
As far as the info itself...
Well I'm not big on previews, and that's what this was essentially, they are almost always overwhelmingly positive, sometimes in stark comparison to an actual review a few months (or issues in Edge's case and in general back in the day) later.
Having said that, there's nothing mentioned in that feature/preview that I find negative in any meaningful way, quite the opposite in fact. It looks like the team is going out of its way not to modernize the game to the point of it being unrecognizable as a Shenmue game, which is one of the issues other Kickstarter projects, that were mostly funded by a nostalgic fanbase, had in the past. In ignoring the identity of the original games, and clamoring, for that coveted, 'modern' audience that in most cases couldn't give a damn about the franchise, or genre in question, and are too busy playing, whatever the big marketed flavor of the month happens to be.
If something worries me, besides the character models looking very off, especially Shenhua, probably the only character that doesn't look remotely as good as her original model, in any picture and from any angle they shown so far, changing her clothes to a drab, beige set-up, doesn't help with that either. But as I said before I already accepted that, and waiting for the fanbase to 'fix' them quite promptly on PC after the game releases, it may be at bit jarring starting out, but I can live with that, especially since the graphics look perfectly fine otherwise, though we haven't seen much of the game in motion yet.
No, what I'm worried about, is, for lack of a better term, 'gamifying' the game too much, with stuff like the Affinity system. Which as an avid grinder (more out of necessity than love) it smells like padding the gameplay with unnecessary fluff, just to extend the longevity. The original Shenmue flowed so well organically and avoided a lot of the trappings of most games, especially RPG's, which it is often compared to, despite lacking any real, RPG elements, and though you could spend hours mastering moves, and collecting Capsule Toys (as I'm doing right now), it was completely optional.
My worries may be unfounded since they are based on an interpolation of what was said, and I'm too marred by modern formulaic design and Skinner boxes disguised as games which colors my views negatively, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Now what's that about a beta I hear? I don't remember beta being in any of the tiers, I went and checked the Kickstarter page again and couldn't see anything about a beta, though there's a lot of tiers and I might have missed it.
