Ys I & II Chronicles+
Video gaming perfection. Now available on GOG.com.

Interestingly enough (to me at least), the two Books of Ys are really separated on this GOG release; each has its own separate .exe file.

For the most part, this is identical to the Japanese (physical) PC release and the PSP game. There does seem to be some extra ("+") stuff but most of it isn't worthwhile.

And though I've rolled through Book II several times now I still can't find my way around that damn Palace of Solomon without a map. What a cluster that place is.

Highly recommended to anyone who has never played this. Though once again I must say - and you knew this was coming - the TurboGrafx CD version is the best.

Mushihimesama Futari Ver 1.5
The bug princess!!!

What a neat game by Cave. I've been playing this regularly since I picked it up at PAX East a few years back. I've gone through multiple modes and racked up many achievements (though I can't quite decipher all of them). It's probably my second fave Cave game after the great DS.

What we have here is a great vertical bullet hell shmup with incredible arthropod villians, an interesting scoring system, and beautiful music. It is an import, yes, but it will play on a North American 360. I think there's still one or two region-free Cave games I haven't picked up (is Espgaluda II Black Label good????).

Mushi and Futari are wonderful. Right behind Deathsmiles for me as well.

Espgaluda is pretty fun, and there are a TON of modes (Like 7?). Very pretty, great ST, fun bullet patterns, very in-depth scoring that can still be enjoyed on its lighter layers. Definitely worth checking out!

Any frustrations with the game, or was it overall a pleasant experience for you?

I understand why people don't like the game...it's different. I'd probably give it an 8/10 because it is different. But it's also button mashing fun.

Luke, if you open the spoiler I posted, you can read the review I posted concerning what I did and did not enjoy about Other M. I always spoiler hide my reviews in this thread.

You should read the translated Metroid manga that goes into Samus's history. The story of Other M was designed with the manga in mind.

I read the spoilers, and I know you aren't thrilled with the character of Samus and thought the game was a tad easy.

Just wondering if there were any polarizing aspects of the game that struck you.

Pretty brutal schedule yesterday, was involved in some video shooting. Had to wake up at 3:30 AM, went up to 8:30 PM, with a two hour drive home and unloading. I got in probably around 11:30 PM. Thankfully, there was a break between sessions where I snagged about an hour of sleep. Otherwise I'd have been full zombie mode.

Anyway, that doesn't make for a lot of gaming time, but I squeezed in beating Contra and Super Dodge Ball using NESDS. Pretty terrible run on Contra, I blame my tiny screen and a long day. Still had five lives at the end, so it could have been worse, and I lost the Spreader right before the bubble boss, yet still managed to take it down without losing a life. Yay!

Super Dodge Ball is ridiculously easy on Normal. Hitless run.

If you're interested in some dissection of Fusion, Jeremy Parish has been breaking the game down on his blog. Might be interesting to read, especially since you just finished it.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, i forgot about this.

I'll take a look at that blog, thanks!

Yeah, those are all amazing games i played. I think my favorite out of all of them was Galaxy 2 (however, they're all awesome), i forgot how great Galaxy 2 was.

Well, I've beaten the original Doom. I'm not counting the fourth episode as part of that, since the original set was three episodes.

Honestly, it was a lot of fun overall. Fairly simple, but addictive. Just the right sort of blend of action and mild puzzling. The graphics haven't aged well, but they still have their charm. And it's nice that it runs so smooth, at the very least.

The last boss wasn't hard... but that's because I used the BFG9000. :)

Obviously nowhere near a complete run, but I did get 100% on a stage or two. I should also note that I was on default difficulty. That's probably as far as I'll take it for right now.

I can also see why it had so many folks concerned. In an age where games were still very much considered for kids, it was a game clearly trying to push boundaries, and I'm sure it especially appealed to teenagers. That much in the way of blood and guts, combined with the Satanic imagery, would have certainly given my parents pause... and I'd not let my kids play something like that, either. Of course, today, it's almost quaint. :(

I'm really glad I went through it, though! There's a lot of quality there.
