For old stuff I go with GOG (unless Steam gets it first, like the id collection), but new stuff I go for Steam because I like the auto updating. Galaxy still hasn't gotten out of the obvious beta phase yet.

I should be bothered by Steam DRM, but I'm not. I only buy stuff when it's on major sale after it's been out a while, so I never paid full price for anything, and Valve has proven financially very stable. And usability is very good. I really don't have the available disk space to keep everything installed, and if GOG dies, the lack of DRM only helps for stuff I have downloaded, which means most of my library would go away anyway.

So I beat the last level of Fire Emblem:Shadow Dragon tonight after slowly playing through for what seems like months. It is the second Fire Emblem game I've beaten now, Awakenings being the first.
I liked this game a fair bit, but it does show its age (in that it is a remake of the original Fire Emblem game) as it doesn't have as much to offer as the far more modern Awakening did. Character relationships don't really develop and class changing is very limited and linear.
I liked the bulk of the difficulty to this game - there really weren't any simple battles that were a walk in the park. That being said, some of the tactics the game used to create difficulty didn't sit well with me. A few too many enemies with enormous range that could kill certain units in a single blow lead to some eye rolling and game resets. I would have preferred to have at least some of the stage bosses be mobile, as a few of them could just be beat down from afar without any chance of harm to my characters.
I'm interested in just how much more the story was fleshed out in the remake versus the original Famicom game, as I found this to have a relatively healthy narrative - certainly it would have been a stand out for the NES era.
Overall this was fun for me to play, with the odd moment of frustration sprinkled in. I don't see myself going back to it for a replay though, with so many other games in the series available (and with Fates pre-ordered).

61. Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts (DS | 2007 | dungeon crawler) 6/10
Dungeon Explorer is aptly named, because indeed it is all about exploring dungeons. Well, exploring them for monsters to kill over and over anyway. And if you can get over its cruddy graphics, you'll be rewarded with a mildly addictive hack'n'slash dungeon crawler. If you finish the single player campaign, you can get some friends together and co-op the "pyramid" dungeon for the true ending. (I don't recommending trying to do the pyramid solo, it's designed not to be.) All in all, Dungeon Explorer is pure dungeon crawling at its most distilled; kill lots of baddies, collect loot, level up, rinse, repeat. If that's what you're after, you'll find that here in a totally basic form. But if you're looking for a good story, nice graphics, or well thought out expansive game design, forget it. Most folks are gonna find this particular dungeon far too repetitive and unambitious to bother exploring.

The DS one has more in common with Diablo than it does the earlier iterations in the series (those were more Gauntlet-like). It still has the enemy generators that you must destroy to progress at times, but that was the only tangible hallmark that stood out for me.
