I didn't like them at all when I tried it (seemed to be a common complaint in reviews too).

Great game. Avoid the Wii version and Blazing Angles 2 if possible.

Airforce Delta on Dreamcast has its very strong moments punctuated with some severely boring segments. Especially in the initial missions. Same with Wing Arms. If you're interested in older school Sega titles, those are both fun. They are also both pretty impressive considering the hardware they're on.

It's not quite the same but After Burner on PSN is an incredible re-imagining of everything that made the original After Burners great.

Crimson Skies has already been mentioned and you should definitely take a look at it.

Of course, if you have already played the very excellent Ace Combat 5 and 6, then you should check out the PSP titles since that's where the quality in the series has gone.

Came in to pull a 6th gen reach on this one. It's exactly like AC. I didn't find any of it boring, but I did find some spots difficult (ESCORT MISSION!) There's enough variations in the environments and the missions, and you can purchase a ton of planes, although once you get the F22 the game is as good as done

If only that ever worked right for the PC. I play a special arcade version of it occasionally, it uses one of those simulation/feedback chairs.

When I played it with the stick and throttle setup with the Wii mote and nunchuck it seemed to work very well and had a pretty awesome feel. My setup had me within 3-4feet of the sensor bar though any farther and I might have had issues.

There's a fan patch that should run Crimson Skies on modern Windows. Look it up on Gamefaqs.

If you don't mind grinding your way through hundreds of battles check out WarThunder. Has really nice planes, although all encounters are within visual range and using machineguns.

Keep in mind that the Xbox and PC versions are different in a lot of ways. The Xbox version is the one to play.

Actually I forgot about Ace Combat Assault Horizon, it had mixed reviews so I passed on it when it was new. But I just watch some gameplay of it online and it seems actually quite fun and look how cheap I got it for http://www.ebay.com/itm/281362876469?ss ... 1439.l2649

It has got to be worth $8.50 right?
