I've never played a Drakengard. BD is one I have considered checking out, but I am in no rush.

I think we do have a thread for that at the end of the year. Which is nice, as I'm always "behind the times" myself.

We have a "GOTY" thread every year and people, understandably, tend to list games released in the current year. Some people list games played "in the current year" though, because they are hardcore retro and don't enjoy shiny new things.

Aside from myself, I'm sure some of you also have a backlog that stretches back to the early 80's. I often play older games simply because I haven't gotten around to them until now.

Games Beaten in 2012 = 32
Games Beaten in 2013 = 34
1/1 The Walking Dead S2 - Episode 1: All That Remains
1/3 The Gold Factory (WEB)
1/14 Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
1/15 Proteus (Vita)
1/26 Gone Home (PC)
2/1 Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS)
2/2 Broken Sword 5 - The Serpent's Curse: Act I (PC)
2/4 Broken Age: Act I (PC)
2/8 Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark (Vita)
2/13 Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller: Episode 4 - The Cain Killer (PC)
2/20 Contrast (PS4)

Games Beaten = 23

So I let the updates on this get way out of hand, so "reviews" will probably be pretty short unless I have something profound to say.

3/16 The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2 - Smoke and Mirrors (PS3)
Most of my thoughts will be in the last episode. I do remember this one really amped up the tension and was a great follow-up from the first one.

3/17 The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 2 - A House Divided (PS3)
More awesome Telltale storytelling. The characters are really strong this season and it's taking a really interesting arc so far.

3/24 God of War: Ascension (PS3)
Overall I was pretty disappointed with this one. A lot of the "stages" feel very constricted and I don't know if that's because they were doing a bunch on screen and had to keep it small or what. God of War gets a lot of flack for being over-the-top violent and sexist, but for the most part over the trilogy, I felt that the games had an epic feel and interesting story. This one just felt like all of that without the interesting story. It was just kinda ... boring I guess. Top this off with a broken fight towards the end of the game that was brutally difficult. I probably had to restart it 10 times, where I don't think I had died before that point. Just a ridiculous ramp and a disappointing end. Here's hoping we get a proper PS4 sequel soon to wash this from my memory.

3/26 Goldfish (WEB)
http://ondras.github.io/goldfish/

Fun little ASCII game, rogue-like.

3/31 Suikoden (PS1 (Vita))
Wow, I loved this game. I played this a bit in college (probably got through about half) and was excited when the Together RPG group decided to go for this one. You can find my thoughts here:http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=866118#p866118 and elsewhere in the thread.

4/24 The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 - A Crooked Mile (PS3)
Apex episode of the arc and I felt like a lot of questions were raised here.

5/9 Drowning in Problems (WEB)
http://game.notch.net/drowning/#

Web game by Notch, I guess? Depressing look at life.

5/12 2048 (WP)
WP is Windows Phone. I believe this is available on iOS as well. Sliding tile game, multiples of 2 until you can get the 2048 tile. Addicting.

5/16 Tearaway (Vita)
Super charming and fun little platformer. I felt that Media Molecule really knocked this out of the park and found a lot of fun uses for the touch screen and cameras of the Vita. If you have a Vita you should try this one out, it's that good.

5/18 Dark Souls II (PS3)
This will probably be my GotY for 2014. I have a friend that has been "into" these games since Demon's Souls and I tried each iteration and didn't get it. With DS2 I think they had done enough fine tuning to the design that it finally clicked for me and sucked me in big time. Some 80 hours later and I was just deeply engrossed and loved every aspect of this game. Day 1 purchase of the next game, Bloodborne.

5/18 The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 3 - In Harm's Way (PS3)
Some messed up stuff happens in this game. :(

5/28 Burrito Bison (WEB)
http://www.notdoppler.com/burritobison.php

Old, endless runner type game, runs like crap, but it's nice 5 - 10 minute diversion.

5/30 SUPERHOT (WEB)
http://superhotgame.com/play-prototype

This is a really cool concept game. It's an FPS where time only progresses when you move. So you shoot your gun or get shot at and you have time (since you're in control of time) to move and dodge bullets. Definitely check it out.

5/30 Brawlin' Sailor (WEB)
http://www.kongregate.com/games/molkman/brawlin-sailor

Like playing a cartoon that was drawn on a sketch pad. It's a quick little brawler with a fun twist.

6/3 inFamous: Second Son (PS4)
I love the inFamous games and I would say this is a like, not a love. I felt the story was very shallow on this one. Gameplay is a lot like the others though and I love that and some of the new powers are a blast to use, especially neon, where you're running up the sides of building, shooting up into the air and crashing down onto enemies, quite a rush. The animation and look of the models in this game are outstanding and the voice acting sells it as well.

6/8 The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing (PS3)
Lots of setup for the big finale and it kind ends up meaning not a lot happens.

7/2 Shovel Knight (3DS)
NES-era game which is pitch perfect. A lot of love and fine tuning went into this game and it shows. Platforming at its finest.

7/5 Gunman Clive (3DS eShop)
Great little platformer and super cheap. I played through most of this awhile ago and when I recommended it to dsh the other day I thought I should probably finish it. It was a little weaker then I remember, I think because I played it right after Shovel Knight, so don't do that. :)

7/8 Watch_Dogs (PS4)
I liked many aspects of this game, some of the hacking mini-games and whatnot were really cool and interesting. I kind of hate the protaganist though and the story you weave him through. He's just a giant asshole and deserves everything that happens to him. You feel sorry for his family that is trapped with him and I think if you could just remove Aiden from the situation and away from his family everyone would be better for it.

7/22 The Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 - Cry Wolf (PS3)
What an awesome finale to this game. Several satisfying scenes in this ending and conclusion to the story arc. Overall I don't think this is as strong as The Walking Dead, but there is a lot to like here. I loved the music and asethetic of the game, it just gave the world flesh and brought you in. The twist at the end was poorly executed and hard to understand, I had to look it up. Cool twist, but I wish it was more understandable in game.

1. King of Fighters R-2 (NGPC)
2. Dead or Alive 2 (Limited Edition) (DC)
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time (PS2)
4. Metal Gear (PS2)
5. Capcom Vs. SNK 2 (DC)
6. Sonic The Hedgehog Pocket Adventure (NGPC)
7. Bust-A-Move Pocket (NGPC)
8. Super Puzzle Figher IIX (DC)
9. Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge (DC)
10. Puyo Puyo Fever (DC)
11. Phantasy Star Online (DC)
12. Among The Sleep (PC)
13. Titanfall (PC)
14. Wolfenstein: The New Order (PC)
15. Shovel Knight (PC)
16. Dragon's Lair (PC)

Finally beat 1/10 of my Summer Gaming list. Dragon's Lair took me 39 minutes. But it was "free play" and had the prompts... I have no idea how anyone could have beaten the arcade game. Unreal. Even with prompts it's brutal. I think that it's really a milestone, technologically speaking. But as a game, it's just a meditation on masochism. Glad to have played through it, for historical appreciation, but no way I'd devote time to taking it down in the arcade.

The Dragon's Lair arcade game scared the shit out of me as a kid. No joke.

"Free play" is endless credits, yes? What do you mean by "prompts"?
