See, to the computer there might be discreet turns, but those aren't really visible to the player. Interacting with those turns isn't really a thing. From the player perspective, Diablo isn't turn-based in the least. What's going on behind the scenes doesn't count a bit.

I think you might be confusing what a computer does to poll I/O, on a micro scale, with macro scale turn based design decisions. The computer has to (semi) regularly poll controller inputs in a "real time" game, while keeping track of its own timers, in order to not miss certain inputs from the player, and maintain a reasonable sense of real time action. This isn't taking a turn any more than it would be to look at your opponent's foil in fencing to see if it moved, is moving, or will be moving.

I admit, sometimes the dividing line can be a bit dicey, but I like the way marurun has broken things down. I also think Diablo falls firmly into the "action-RPG" category.

I'm just quoting an indie developer.

But if you don't understand the quote, what's the point of parroting it?

Dude........ no. "Turn-based" games are defined by a specific type of design, where players and combatants "take turns" which generally play out via a menu system.

The term doesn't simply refer to any game with stat-based combat, or any kind of "waiting." I mean, your definition is so broad that literally any video game could be considered "turn-based."

I just want to throw in as a interesting tidbit that Diablo 1 was suppose to be turn based game originally (it's origins do show in the final product)

I do understand it's all of you people who don't understand but think you do. He was reflecting what I said earlier as correct. You people as with most people are not understanding game design. It's fine that you people in this thread don't get it.
