Games Beaten: 2012 2011 2010

I wrote about The Last Blade in the Summer Challenge thread and FFS in the TR thread. I "beat" both but not in a way I can really be especially proud of. Still, I sunk some time in and got to the end credits, so whatever.

This was the first time beating Halo 2600 on actual hardware, so it was a bit special. Easily in my top 5 VCS games, and something that even some of our "I don't like old Atari games" people would probably find very compelling.

How did you manage to get a cart? How much did it set you back? I played it via emulation and it was pretty enjoyable for what it was.

I have a CIB copy from when Atari Age started selling a batch a month or two ago.

Here, they still have them: http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php ... ail&p=1015

They also have cart only copies for $30

Oh that is pretty cool. I thought they only did a single wave of physical carts and it had become one of those 'rare' homebrews (though I guess all are). How did you find it played on real hardware? (performance wise).

I found a few "glitches" (e.g. getting stuck on an enemy's head, clipping through a wall, etc.) but nothing major and consistent. Of course, those glitches occur in "modern" Halo too, so there's that.

The Saturn version has definitely aged graphics wise, but aside from that, I loved it. Some people do not think it deserves the hype it gets today. They think it was more of a tech demo than a fully fledged video game. But I think its way more than that.

Pitting it with today's standards, it can be seen as too short, too simple, and too repetitive. But yet there are so many indie games today that have those exact same "problems." Indie games are meant to give a different/unique gaming experience, within an easy to consume and comfortable package. And I think that's exactly what Sega did with NiGHTS into Dreams. It's not quite for everyone, but I loved it.
