There was a thread on here discussing if the ps2 is considered retro, I can't find it but I guess it definitely retro by now

"Retro" doesn't really say anything at all. If you're just counting years, then it's exactly synonymous with "old" and therefore means nothing on its own. Sure, the PS2 is old now compared to more recent systems.

That came out quite a bit in that old thread (or at least one of them, there may have been others).

Bone doesn't like to acknowledge anything newer than the SNES, so--.

I would be inclined to lump the PS2 into that category of older consoles people tend to deem "retro," but similar to Bone, I feel like the PS3 and 360 would potentially never be included in that list, as they will always seem modern to me. Regardless, I don't think the distinction is really appropos of anything. I don't really play games when they're new anymore, personally, and obviously play a lot more older games, but whether or not a console can be considered "retro" now isn't really important to me.

I'm more interested in mechanical and aesthetic attributes than how literally "old" something is. The PS2 is a DVD-based console (for the most part), with 3D games that essentially utilize the same control schemes common in "modern" consoles.

I'd argue that the true "retro" consoles are those that adhere to more "obsolete" standards (2D pixelated graphics, chiptunes, cart/CD/disk media, and so on).

Also, I can still buy PS2 games at my local Wal-Mart and Best Buy lulz.

That's because Maine is so far from civilization that the truck with the PS3s is still on the road trying to get it to stores.

I have literally never touched a PS4 controller, so you're not too far off!
