Aw, dammit! I’m pretty sure I had, and sold, a pulse weapon that I got out of a gobbiedial. I’ll have to root through my coffers to double check, but I’m pretty sure I got rid of it.

Oh wait, they can’t be sold. I must be thinking of something else. Maybe a weapon for the pulse cells? Maybe I still have the pulse weapon?

Edit: I think I do still have one. I think I have the Ephemeron! Could I possibly be so lucky as to maybe have a way to get a good dagger for once? We shall see. Nice that it could potentially work for BRD, too.

Looking around the NA Wii U eShop and comparing it to the Japanese one, I noticed a few notable games that the Japanese shop doesn't have but the NA store does! Particularly anything Natsume published for the SNES or GBA. The Japanese store has Harvest Moon 64, but it doesn't have the SNES or GBA Harvest Moon games, and it also doesn't have Wild Guns. Not that important in the grand scheme of things, but I just assumed that the Japanese store was the NA store but with more in it, and it's odd to see games, especially well-thought of ones, not present (even though with how complicated Natsume's relationship to Harvest Moon is, I'm pretty sure I understand well enough why those games aren't on the Japanese eShop).

Have you ever had a day where every game you try to play is just absolute trash? That was me on Friday. I had no plans on Friday other than to stay home and play video games the entire day, and so I did, here were the results:

the day started with a game called bitmaster, probably one of the worst twin stick shooters I have ever played, horrible graphics that made your eyes bleed, long drawn out redundant levels, loose controls, horrific

I then followed it up with a game called extinction, seemed like a fun hack and slash that has you battling huge orcs and trying to save cities. At first I enjoyed it but then the more you play the more you realize how redundant the game is, it repeats the same missions over and over agan, there are tons of "protect x" missions which always suck, and some levels are randomnly generated which adds to the frustration because enemies can spawn in a way that make it impossible to beat.

Next up I tried to play lost planet 2, an old game with serious installation issues, I eventually got it to work, played for a few levels, it seemed ok until I took a break to eat, came back and my save was gone. Uninstalled immediately

So I then decided to play it safe with some electronic super joy 2, a game I had already played a bit and was enjoying so far, a few levels in I ran into a horrible escort mission where the board turns sideways, you can't see platforms, missiles are flying everywhere and it is hard for all the wrong reasons. I wanted to tough it out so I made it pretty deep into the level, several checkpoints in...and then my phone rings. I press start to pause and discover, the hard way, that the start button actually resets the level and I lost all my progress on that level...Next

I loaded up an openbor game called battletoads/double dragon the revenge. Not a horrible game but pretty mediocre, very repetitive and not all moves worked on all enemies so you wound up just doing very basic attacks the whole game, definitely dull but I did see it through to the end.

Knowing the genesis mini is about to be released I then decide to embrace the fact that everything I play is going to suck and just hook up my pc to my tv and begin to load up random genesis games I have never played, the results were:

2 first person shooters that made my eyes bleed and were obviously terrible...but I give them credit for trying

battletoads, which was inferior to the nes version in every way, and my god was the music and sound effects terrible

2 crappy pinball games, dinoland and dragons revenge, both sounded so much cooler before clicking them

some weird vertical scrolling schmup that had horrible sound effects, dumb enemies, and cutscenes of anime girls getting naked between levels...wtf

taz escape from mars, not the worst game ever, but pretty mediocre for sure

and finally empire of steel. I'm still not sure if this was the best schmup I have ever played or it just seemed so amazing because I spent about 10 hours playing garbage, but my god this game rocks. Awesome soundtrack, really sharp dystopian graphics, tight controls that let you shoot in both directions, and you can play as a blimp which is just amazing. I have never even heard of this game but my god did I have fun with it.

So that was my day of suck, anyone else ever have a day like this, where nothing goes right for you in the gaming world?

I'm really stuck in how to feel about one game and one series. For the series, it's Dead Rising. I really like the series... but every time I finish one of the games I sit back and wonder why. It's such an odd feeling.

In the other hand... I just can't get into RE1 and it makes me feel like a heretic.

I can't say one way or the other about Dead Rising, but a lot of people struggle with RE1. The controls and dated 3D graphics are a tough sell. As it is, I prefer Everyman type characters for horror games instead of super cops, which is why I preferred RE2. No shame, Forlorn, I won't judge you over it.

Is it Dead Rising 1 that only has one save allowed? I remember one of them being a complete pain because of that... pretty sure it's the first game.

Was Leon really an "everyman"? Or are you referring more to Claire? Even she's directly related to a super-cop, though.

Okay, I got it. I now know who your favorite character in all of RE is: It's definitely Steve Burnside. Good choice, Ack.

I feel Code Veronica is the best of the first four REs, Forlorn. You could try that one out. Maybe it was just having the practice at that point, but I felt like the controls were less cumbersome in CV, even though they were still tank controls. Just don't play the HD update for CV. They messed up the contrast, and color saturation real bad.

I'm actually playing REmake, so the controls aren't the issue. I'm just not having much fun with it. Everything is good, but I just don't feel any interest in it compared to say, RE2R, RE7, RE4. It's kind of like SH2, nothing was wrong with the game, I just got bored of it extremely quickly.

In RE2, Leon is a rookie cop who is showing up to his first day at work. While he does have his training from the police academy, he isn't field tested at all. He doesn't go full supercop until RE4. And Claire is the biker sister of a supercop, but I don't feel like she became an unbelievable character until I saw her use an exploding fuel tank to clear a room of Umbrella dudes in a John Woo moment...

Poor Steve deserved better.
