Could end up being my Game of the Year too, though I was extremely impressed by both Dust: An Elysian Tail and Mark of the Ninja as well. Journey though, is the sort of game that seems to want to be more than just a game. It's always nice to see titles like that. It's certainly a game I want to play again. I want to re-experience everything and see what little secrets I might find on another playthrough. There were many times when I wanted to explore more, but didn't want to fall behind as my partner would be moving forward.

RE5 I had played before on PS3, but this time it was on 360 with my girlfriend to catch her up in time for 6.

Sleeping Dogs was a very pleasant surprise. It's rocky development kind of turned me off before it came out, but I decided to give it a chance and I'm glad I did. I was really impressed with the animations and voice acting during cut scenes. The story is told very well. It's also not very common for an open world sandbox game to have such great melee combat.

1/2 Cannon Spike (DC)
1/9 Mega Man X4 (GCN)
1/17 Psycho Soldier (PSN)
1/22 Warhammer 40,000: Dark Crusade (PC)
1/28 Police 911 2 (Arcade)
2/7 Soul Calibur V (PS3)
2/26 Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition (PS3)
3/7 Street Fighter X Tekken (PS3)
4/14 Sonic CD (PSN)
5/3 Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi 3 (Wii)
6/3 Metroid Prime (Wii)
7/1 Metroid: Other M (Wii)
7/1 Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii)
7/7 Strikers: 1945 (Arcade)
7/25 Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
8/23 Megaman III (Gameboy)
8/24 Megaman IV (Gameboy)
9/3 Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins (Gameboy)
9/4 Kirby's Dreamland (Gameboy)
9/6 Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Gameboy)
9/20 Kirby's Dreamland (Wii)

Tried out Kirby's Dreamland for the Kirby collection on the Wii. A pretty decent port but I feel like they missed an opportunity to spruce it up or add a few features. The only thing really different that I noticed is that there is almost no slow-down at all, so at least they built a custom emulator for it.
The PSTV is amazing.

I haven't finished the game yet, but I too am surprised by how good the combat is. It's challenging and satisfying. I love jumping into a group, grabbing a guy, bashing his head into an aquarium, picking up a giant fish, then using it like a baseball bat to send the other guys flying, followed by a running tackle and face pummeling.

The combat feels like it belongs in a beat 'em up or a smaller, linear action game, not an open world game. It's very satisfying.

47. Syndicate (360)

GameFly sent me Syndicate, and having just finished Sleeping Dogs I figured I'd slip it in before starting Dragon's Dogma. I'd heard it was short, and it definitely was. I think I knocked it out in around 5 hours total.

It was pretty fun for what it was, but the whole time I felt like something was missing, like it could have been more. Throwing "breaching" (what they call hacking) into the mix during a gun fight definitely added a lot of excitement and strategy to the action segments, but its skill system felt lacking. Overall it's hard to pinpoint why I feel it could have been better since there was nothing really that bad about it.

I haven't updated this in a while.

Dear Esther
Deus Ex Human Revolution + Missing link
Jamestown
Shank
Sonic Generations
Thunderforce III
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Doom (GBA version)
Batman Arkham Asylum
Wolfenstein 3D
Gran Turismo 5
Batman Arkham City
Project Gotham Racing 3

Borderlands

Really enjoyed playing this one. Spent about 8 hours on Sunday (finished it right around the beginning of Monday) plowing through it. That said, I really don't have any desire to pick up the sequel. At least not for quite a while.

Also. The bosses looked cool, but sucked. And that ending was really a kick in the teeth considering the already pretty poor story. Ah well. It was fun.

1. Toy Story 2 (PS)
2. The Adventures of Cookie & Cream (PS2)
3. Bully (PS2) 5-7-12
4. RC Revenge Pro (PS2) 5-23-12
5. Custom Robo (GCN) 5-28-12
6. Ico (PS2) 6-10-12
7. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) 6-16-12
8. Kingdom Hearts (PS2) 6-20-12
9. The Saboteur (PS3) 8-10-12
10. Tomb Raider (PS) 8-15-12
11. Skate. (PS3) 9-24-12

So I just got what seemed to be a "The End!" message from Skate even though I haven't beaten the X-Games. Which seems weird to me... but I'll take it! I'm trying to get over my completionist tendencies so that I can actually play through more games. As you can see I haven't exactly been knocking em out this year.

Anyway, Skate's a really nice change of pace if you're used to the Tony Hawk series like I was. Skate managed to capture the fun of just riding around on a skateboard. It also managed to capture how incredibly hard it can be to do tricks on that skateboard, but a little practice pays off. I had some frustration at plenty of parts of this game but overall I would say it was really fun and you should definitely give it a try if you're into skateboarding games and feel like you can conquer any Tony Hawk game with your eyes closed. I also had a lot of fun playing it with friends. You take turns so you can have 4 players on 1 controller and even if someone is bad, it's hilarious to watch all the different ways these skaters can break every bone in their body.

1. Mortal Kombat (PS3)
2. The Ball (PC)
3. Tyrian 2000 (PC)
4. Shogo - Mobile Armor Division (PC)
5. Disney's Goof Troop (SNES)
6. Left 4 Dead 2 (PC)
7. Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (SNES)
8. Abobo's Big Adventure (PC)
9. Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye (SNES)
10. Castlevania 64 (N64)
11. Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES)
12. Dungeons of Dredmor (PC)
13. Torchlight (PC)
14. Wild Arms 3 (PS2)
15. The Darkness (PS3)

So two more down. Wild Arms 3 I've been slowly plodding through since late June. Between work and life, getting through a JRPG takes forever these days, so I don't really get to do it much. The Darkness I picked up on a recommendation from a friend because she figured I would enjoy killing my enemies and then eating their hearts...which I did. I'll go back through it on the highest difficulty some time and pick up the things I missed.
