So as I mentioned before I was going for getting all the cut-scenes to show up in the cut scene review in the main menu of Shadow Man. And I was missing two boss introductions, which the developers in all their divine wisdom (or most likely by accident) decided not to make count if you got them while your character has his powers on (which is the only way you can even beat the bosses by the way).

Well, as I also mentioned before, for one of them, that is technically impossible, since there's a swimming barrier in getting to the boss that requires your powers to get through and get his cut-scene.

So I loaded a test level on debug again, put invincibility on (so I wouldn't drown) and it worked!

But this also means that unless it works like is supposed to (you get the cut-scene in the review whether you have your powers or not) in the console versions of the game, this cut scene would be impossible to get in the cut scene review, in any other version of the game unless you use a cheat device that will give you invincibility. As a note, this cut-scene had the habit of replaying if you lost to the boss and came back, or if you left the place entirely and came back, which doesn't happen with any other cut-scene, so is probably extra glitchy in some way.

Now I have two remaining cut-scenes to get, that are bit hard to determine when they pop exactly, the only reason I even know they exist is because they listed in the PC files. But given that the majority of the cut-scenes are going back and talking to Nettie and Jaunty, this shouldn't be too hard if I keep running back to them after every step. Having said that, I hope I don't have to go through the entire game for the third time to trigger them, this was taxing enough already.

All this inane stuff have really messed up my schedule and I was hoping to start Shenmue at Christmas, and that is going to be a complicated playthrough as well, since I'm going for 100% there also, which includes doing all the QTE's perfectly and much, much, more.

You do not need to do all of the qtes perfectly in shenmue to 100% it. Also, does 100% for you mean seeing all of the cutscenes or does it also mean completing your journal entirely. Does it mean collecting all of the capsule toys? Collecting the tapes? I'm very curious to know what your criteria is for Shenmue go consider it 100%ed

I do need to do all the QTE's perfectly by my criteria, especially since some of them play out slightly differently if you don't fail at all. But since there's no record for them, I view them more as a challenge.

But the capsule toys and tapes go without saying, I mean what would I be 100%'ing otherwise?

Journal and cutscenes are a bit more complicated, I haven't done my research for the playthrough yet, so I don't know if there's any conflicts between them or any other of my requirements, in which case I'll have to pick and choose between them like is often the case with quest choices/results in western RPG's.

Beating Chai on the first battle is a big one for me, as is getting the top score in the arcade games.

The one thing I may be able to relent on is the moves you can max out, since I don't remember if it is even technically possible to max all of them out.

But as I've said already, I haven't done my research yet, and I haven't played the game recently so I'm fuzzy on some things. But I assume given the game's popularity I will have no problem finding information and subsequently confirmation that everything can be done in the game's internal (very generous) time limit. Since I'm pretty sure I'm not the first craz.. eh I mean completionist to have attempted to complete the game before.

I am very interested in your plans for a 100% playthrough of Shenmue. I alluded to it in the RPG progress thread, but three and a half (friggin') years ago (damn, time, slow down a little), I started a full notebook/100% playthrough of the Japanese version of Shenmue. I basically stopped at about where Goro is trying to get Ryo the job at the docks, but mostly because I was trying to cram in a bunch of things into just a couple days, to meet some soft deadlines, including Fangmei's birthday. That's where the slot machines came in (damn Mitsuka Certificate).

I was using my old Prima guide (that I bought when I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get into the basement of the dojo, back when the game was new) and this Japanese website, which probably isn't all that helpful for a lot of others, but it was really good for double checking some of the inaccuracies of the Prima guide. I still ended up missing an entry related to Won, but oh well. I actually streamed most of it (to just past the Chai fight), and saved it on my youtube page, but while I was originally going for completion, I ended up just kind of resigning myself to getting everything that would carry over into Shenmue II, since I was originally trying to get a "perfect" file to import into the Japanese version of Shenmue II, anyway. Also, I'm pretty convinced Gold Dural is not actually obtainable in the first game. You can show me screenshots of it being pulled from the raffle, but I don't believe it.

In terms of the notebook, it is impossible to actually get one with every space completely filled in. Even in the best case, with the maximum number of entries obtainable, there are still three that are lost forever. Those three are lost because the note that's given changes based on a selection, or QTE result, but getting the maximum number of entries also hinges on choosing the right result.

Moves can be maxed. Throws are kind of a bitch to max, but the rest are just a matter of how long you can repeat the same move without going insane. I forgot exactly how it works for importing into the Shenmue II, but I think even if you max them, any moves over half proficiency just get reset to half when carried over.

The other question is, would you be trying to get enough winning cans for all of the character data on the Shenmue Passport, in case, say, someone were to host Shenmue Online somehow? Similarly, would you be after enough of the slot machine prizes to get all the downloadable figures?

I did some preliminary research and yes, it looks like there''s going to be some gaps in the Notebook, but since is technically impossible to have them all filled in, I suppose getting everything else should be good enough. Besides this is mostly a technical issue, since from what I read the second game has the same situation, but they were smart enough to make alternate entries interchangeable, so there's zero gaps if you are thorough.

I will be playing the Dreamcast PAL version and will be save transferring into the Shenmue II PAL game. Now I don't know if I'm going to simply go on with Shenmue II right after I'm done with I, simply because I don't know how long completing I is going to take. But it would be ideal if I do the two games back to back especially with the third one coming out next year.

This is a good question and thanks for bringing it to my attention. I did not have my Dreamcast connected to the internet back in the day, so all the online stuff were outside of my purview. I already have means to transfer DLC over to the VMU and an entire 4x Memory Card to devote to the game (plus SD reader support if necessary, and so I can back up on PC my eventual perfect save).

I will probably be doing everything I can feasibly realistically do, unless in-game time becomes an issue, it normally shouldn't. I can keep resetting when going for the Arcade records for example, the only thing that will expedite in-game time exponentially is training for all the moves, since from what I remember time goes faster while you train.

I will probably be documenting my attempt through this topic, since is arguable whether Shenmue is an RPG to do it in the RPG progress report thread.

In Shadow Man in the meantime, after some effort, I got every cut-scene but one, and then... Then I lost everything... Well every cut-scene not my main save. But I already got it all back! Here's what happened.

This last cut-scene was very frustrating to pop, I did everything right at the point in the story is supposed to pop up, but it wouldn't, so I decided to mess around with the cut scene file, and well, I didn't back it up first, so I went from missing one cut-scene to missing all of them.

Not being one to give up, after some self flagellating for not making a back up before messing with the file, I looked up online for some saves and hoped the cut scene file was included, well it was and though far from complete (since it looks like I'm the only one ever to have cared about this) it at least cut my work for getting everything back to half.

I got every cut-scene back lickety-split since I made liberal use of the Debug menu options (thing which I should have done from the beginning when it came to cut-scene hunting), and I was able to get the one I was missing to pop for confirmation of its existence and how it played in the game and which character gave it to you, since that's what I was trying to do by messing with the file originally.

Well I still miss the cut-scene from the viewer since the one I got from a Debug Test level wouldn't register, but at least now I know (or think I know) exactly how to go about getting it to pop organically.

So hopefully I can get this done by the end of the day and put a nice bow on my official unmolested by debug menus and all that jazz, second playthrough, and move on with my life.

Of course... I will attempt to do the same with the Dreamcast version of the game also, but I learned my lesson and I'll wait for my Xploder DC to arrive to go after cut-scenes. My Dreamcast save should be already perfect otherwise, and depending how the console version handles the cut scene viewer maybe I won't need to do anything at all.

EDIT: So after going through most of the game for what was essentially the third time, and doing much more besides that. I could not for the life of me get that cut-scene to pop.

Just to be clear for people unfamiliar with the game. All of these 'optional' cut-scenes are really meant as 'hints' for a wayward player, though some of them have some funny dialogue to go along. As such, and in theory, they are all 'easy' to pop, though it was pretty hard for me to pop naturally as I know what I'm doing within the game, both because of previous experience with the game through the Dreamcast version and because of my experience with these types of games in general (the game being very easy on top of that also helps).

This particular cut-scene is supposed to 'hint' you towards three parts of a dagger you need in order to proceed to the end of the game, is supposed to pop after a previous cut-scene that tells you you need the dagger in the first place. The equivalent cut-scene for the other character pops just fine, but no matter what I do, the second character won't shift to the 'hint' cut-scene. Leading me to believe that somehow the developers forgot to add the flag that does the shift.

There's zero information about this online, it looks like I'm the only person ever to have bothered to unlock every cut-scene in the cut scene review in the main menu of this game, and all of the Shadow Man cut-scene compilation videos out there miss this cut scene and more besides.

This wasn't a real completionist goal for the game either, I just got curious that I was missing so many cut-scenes and I thought it trivial (even without abusing the debug menu) to get them all initially. It wasn't until the boss introductory cut-scenes not registering on nighttime that things got complicated.

In any case, I have now successfully save edited the cut-scene file so the cut scene would appear in the review list (since I wasn't half-asleep this time), which is a phyric victory at best. But unless the developers themselves come and tell me that the scene is naturally obtainable and what the exact conditions are, or another player has proof, is the one I have to settle with, since I wasted enough of my time already.

I will experiment a bit with the Dreamcast version however, to see if the cut-scene pops naturally there, but I do not want to waste any more time with this game, as much as I liked it originally I'm beginning to get sick of it now, and I'm not sure that save editing the cut-scenes on the Dreamcast version is worth it either, and is going to be more complicated...

Seal system, was that the stylus gimmick crap? Portrait had some too but they thankfully finally dropped all that for Order of Ecclesia from what I remember, which is one of the best.

So Christmas day I started Shenmue as I had previously planned.

Well, so far so good, I've only had two separate playing sessions so far, and I'm about 4 in-game days into the game.

The Notebook completion is proceeding as expected, already had to deal with two unavoidable gaps though. First was an alternate choice thing, when it comes to feeding the cat and the other looks like the game just formatting things weird and leaving a gap. Biggest issue with the Notebook is going to be the Fortune Teller, she is bleeding my money dry pretty quick, since her entries pop up after every other conversation and she charges 300 yen a pop, won't be such a big issue later in the game, but since I don't want to deplete my funds I may have to devote a couple of days entirely to training to make some money back.

I only had to do the two 'introductory' QTE's so far, maybe I was misremembering but I thought some of the QTE's were random? Maybe later on, so far it seems the buttons are always the same, which makes them very easy.

Other than that, early game missable cut scenes were easy to get, don't think I ever missed any of them even when I didn't know they were missable, so are some of the early moves you can learn.

Though training is going to be bothersome, some moves are hard to pull off consecutively and the throw moves can't be trained solo, but as long as I have enough time, it should be manageable. I'll leave the Capsule Toys and everything else that requires money for later in the game when I got more money, though apparently, I have to take advantage of the higher chances at the raffle on certain dates for a better chance for a Dural Gold.

Other than that I found some time and got all the B Emblems with Sonic in Sonic Adventure, and now I'm getting the top scores in all the mini-games just to have them. Snowboarding high score only one with some challenge, but is also the most enjoyable so no biggie.

my wife got me Rollercoaster Tycoon Adventures for Christmas, so I've been playing that. It's not too complex, and not too shallow. Feels pretty close to Planet Coaster, but with a bit less micromanagement. That said... I've probably played like four hours and all of them have been portable. It's awesome seeing such a PC-like game on the Switch.

I am very curious to hear from you how it is. My heart skipped a beat when I saw you playing a Rollercoaster tycoon game on my switch feed because I am almost immediately assumed it was the mobile game that was a disaster. I checked and jt wasn't so I was very very relieved.

I am also happy to see lots of pc games pop up like civilization 6. Can't wait to see more!
