Mega man network transmission for gamecube, interesting game, very different than your average mega man with a very steep learning curve. I am starting to understand it now and I am doing much better but I was getting my ass handed to me for quite some time, had to read an online guide to figure out how the game works. It is a lot of fun once you get into it and surprisingly challenging for a game produced in that gen of consoles.

When I'm done with that I will probably follow it up with a chaser of either mega man 9 or one of the zx games, have been meaning to replay them for quite some time.

I'm sure it's because I don't really know how to play it right (which you could say about the KI series as a whole). But I don't know... maybe the whole c-c-combo thing just isn't my preferred fighting game sub-genre. I'm not saying that it's not fun - not exactly. But I do find myself wanting to play something else fairly quickly.

I'm a big fan of KI 2013, so here's a comment on your initial thoughts of the game.

KI, like most fighting games, is FAR from being a button-masher. The combo system is everything. Understanding it is paramount to consistently beating your opponents. The game has a really good tutorial mode (The Dojo) that will teach you the system and the other mechanics. A great resource is http://ki.infil.net.

A lot of people would argue that combos are what made the genre popular in the first place. It's unlikely you'll play a good fighter where the emphasis is not on combos. The funny thing about KI is that at a mid-to-high competitive level, it's about mind games with your opponent more than anything.

If you decide to keep playing the game, I'd be willing to fight.

As for what I'm playing, trying to get back into Lost Odyssey to finish it. I'm at the beginning of the fourth disc, but haven't played it in over a year.

I started Prince of Persia: Warrior Within on the Microsoft XBOX.

I have heard nothing but negative reviews about the game regarding the story, tone and focus on more action and combat.

And I can see where the people are right. It just feels...unnecessary. It's weird to split a guy in half in a Prince of Persia game. However, the game still feels solid and it is exactly like a regular Prince of Persia game. There are still the acrobatics and that is highly enjoyable.

I'm keeping an open mind considering the I loved the first game so much. I don't think it will be too much, but if I wanted to play God of War, I would play God of War.

Okami HD on PS4.

3rd time buying this game but first time in HD. This game still looks good but the audio sadly has suffered in some areas. Character voices sound really tinny. Everything else sounds fine. This is a game that could use a full-on modern sequel using more modern game design and tech. I still love the game but some cracks are shining through its age.

It's worse than the first game.

Only two of the characters are useful.

The final dungeon is insane. Though maybe remedied in your patched version?

Still a cool game.

Games like the original Exile, which were regular CD-ROM format (as opposed to Super CD-ROM) provide an interesting look at the range of abilities developers had. The CD-ROM format only had a a 64 KiB data cache, meaning the system could only load and store .5 mibits of data at a time. Some developers just made very simple games with good soundtracks, and others managed to do all sorts of fun tricks to make the best of that .5 mibits.

The Super CD-ROM format upgraded the cache to 256 KiB, or 2 mibit (2 MEGA POWER!), so basically every loading break could pull in as much data as a small game cartridge.

The Arcade CD-ROM format paired the Super CD-ROM's 2 mibit cache with an additional 14 mibit cache for a total of 2 MiB of cache memory. But that additional 14 mibit cache didn't use a traditional bank-switching mapper for access. Instead it used some weird serial interface that I don't fully understand. The system was clearly able to reference the memory just fine, given the great Neo Geo ports for Arcade CD, but programmers had to use memory access techniques that might have been just a little different from the traditional bank-switching they were used to.

Hucard sizes ranged from .5 mibit (I'm not sure about this; 1 mibit might have actually been the low end in terms of the smallest ROM you could buy) up to 8 mibit. Street Fighter II' used a bank-switching mapper to get up to 20 mibit. There's no reason bank-switching mappers couldn't have been more common on HuCards except that CDs were cheaper to manufacture and were sufficient for most games. And the CD-ROM unit sold well enough that there simply wasn't widespread demand for NEC to produce larger HuCards, presumably.

After playing a number of back-to-back licensed platformers, I've been playing Phoenix Wright: Justice For All via the 3DS Phoenix Wright compilation for a little change of pace. The gameplay in this one remains largely unchanged from the first game, although the fact that you can submit character profiles as 'evidence' is an interesting twist (which almost threw me for a loop in the first trial). I'm a bit lukewarm that they utilized the tired old 'oops you've got amnesia' trope for the purposes of reorientation/game tutorial during the first trial, but whatever. The first trial was good but simple.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Justice For all has in store, but after this game I'll probably jump into a more modern title for a bit. Also given the title of this game, it's obligatory that I listen to this. You should too.

I played Doki Doki Literature Club last night. Mistake. I played it alone. Big mistake. I played it while four days off my anti-depressants because my pharmacy has been closed due to icy roads. Colossal mistake.

Time to play some Turok or Quake or something to clear my emotions.
