random: how many games do you estimate that you've "beaten"?

I checked once, I've beaten only about 1/4 of the games I own. I've beaten some more since then, and I've bought some more since then, so the number is probably roughly the same.

I never made a list of games I beaten. Just a quick question: do you guys still consider a game beat if you used in game shortcuts, like warp zones in Super Mario Bros., how about using walkthroughs and guides?

Also I consider Wii Sports beat if you unlock everything and became a Pro in everything.

As far as I'm concerned, using a walkthrough on occasion when you're simply stuck is fine. As long as you don't play through the whole game with one.

As far as warps/cheats go... I personally don't think beating a game that way counts. I've never cleared Sonic 2 on my own, though I've fought the final boss and seen the ending thanks to the level select cheat. I still don't think of myself as having 'beaten' that game.

I think warps are fine but cheats aren't. I don't really have any reasoning for that, it's just the system I use.

Yeah I personally think legitimate shortcuts placed into the game by the developers are acceptable. (Blood Sword in FF2 anyone?) Cheats (level select, invincibility) and exploits are a different matter.

That's a good point, perhaps it is better represented in my list of games which I've played to my personal satisfaction.

and most recently they did top 20 for each platform, here:

man, i'm a sucker for lists. ;)

if you're still not satiated, i also compiled a table with IGN's editors vs readers top 100 lists from 2004 through 2008. you can read about it here:

Thanks for this. I was mainly referring to the EGM lists though, mainly because I want to play non-nintendo stuff too. I've played a lot of good games on Nintendo systems, and not so many on others.

I actually already have them typed up so that I can keep track of which games I have completed, and I will try to PM them to you this weekend. I do not know about the first two lists, but the list that appeared in EGM # 200 is reprinted here:

http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3147448

The cool thing about that list is that it was published in February 2006 - right before the current generation of consoles started gaining steam and right before EGM folded. As a result, these list- in my opinion - serve as a guide to the very best retro games.

The Issue 200 list is good, but the Issue 100 and Issue 150 list are incrdible. They include games like Galactic Attack, Guardian Heroes, Elemental Gearbolt, Silent Bomber, Mole Mania, and Blast Corps. before they were cult classics.

I dont know. For about five years I tried playing through every game supported by MAME. Games were considered completed if the story mode was completed or if the machines highscore was accomplished, I got to M. One day I will go back to that project. It was a lot of fun, I just got tired of it.

I would estimate that I have beaten 400-500 games. Mostly for the NES and in my youth when I rented a lot of games and had the time to do such things.

I've probably beaten around 100, maybe a little more. There's a lot of games that I've just played rather than beaten though.
