Light Speeder

I remember when I first watched Tron as a kid and I wished that there was a video game that was just like the light cycle scene. Well, it's been a long time since then, but here is a game that actually does a good job of recreating Tron racing. The sound effects really make it work.

Oh, and in case you missed it when I posted it awhile back, there is also a pretty good official Tron Legacy: Light Cycle flash game released by Disney:

King's Guard

I'm sorry for posting this. I really am. I'm sorry because you are going to lose so much time from clicking on this link. You want to think you're different. You want to think that you are stronger than that. You want to think "oh, no, I can quit whenever I want", but you will be wrong. You see King's Guard combines the crack that is Bejeweled with the meth that is the tower defense genre, and frames it all in the opiate that is Puzzle Quest. This is a gamer speedball. It will wreck your shit. Of course, the first one is free... so you could just try it... right friend?

I only tried it today. Great game. Kind Of Like Metroid ;)

I got 100% as well.

I had 93% and escaped, having lost 12 lives (I took some 30 minutes, so I had a positive score).

Then I hit continue to get the last 2 letters that I knew where they were from going through there but did not have time to get (I noted it down as it was obvious for those 2 down in the "bottom" map that I needed to have better jumping power). I should have guessed what was going to happen before grabbing that last item :/
Anyway, I tried to get the last letters and escape, but didn't make out on time of course. So 13 lives down.

Escaped again taking all in all some 40 minutes. Still positive score of 6050.

I want that music!

K.O.L.M. would not make such an impression without this wonderful music.
I found this link where the author has posted it and downloaded it.
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/359609
It is named "Counting down the hours".

Sky Island

Fez really needs to come out soon. If you are unfamiliar with Fez, it has gotten a lot of press in the indie scene because it is a really interesting take on combining 2-D and 3-D graphics, so the game plays like a 2D platformer, but the world is actually 3-D and when you rotate it, you shift to a new 2D plane. This allows for complex puzzles. The idea is great and I love the look of Fez, but others are beating them to the punch. Fez won the "Excellence in Visual Art" award at the IGF back in 2008 and their game still hasn't been released. Meanwhile, games like Sky Island and Cardboard Box Assembler are out now.

So if you are eager for Fez, here's Sky Island. It's cute. It's fun. It's another brain bender. Enjoy.

I've played it, and liked it. But it plays just like Babel.

Image

Babel is a puzzle platformer that is inspired by Polytron Corporation's Fez, featuring a flattened 3D world which can be rotated to find new ways to advance. Your objective here is to find all diamonds in a stage to activate the teleport and get to the next stage.

Use the action key to read signs, talk to old men, pickup and put down items, or unlock doors (when carrying a key).

^^ Another one? Man, they really need to finish Fez. I haven't played Babel yet, but I know of even a few more that are in a similar style. This is a problem in the indie scene where games get partially released or hyped up from demos at conventions and then the idea spreads before the original is even released. Minecraft has seen several copycat games pop up on various platforms while they are still in Beta with the PC version. And Minecraft itself is based on an unfinished game called Infiniminer.

But That Was [Yesterday]

Warning: artsy ahead!

I have a soft spot for things that others often deride as pretentious. I can admit to that. The word pretentiousness has some of the same roots as the word "pretend" and it largely means to pretend to be something greater than what you are. Personally, I think that's a worthwhile endeavour if it helps growth. But That Was [Yesterday] is not much of a game, but it tries really hard to be something better than what it is. I hated it for the first few minutes, but I found the ending strangely moving. It's an art project with potential only partially realized. It will take you less than 10 minutes to complete though, so I think it's worth the time.

I love this game, but... I really wish they'd port this to either the PSP or iOS (preferably being able to run on my 1st-Gen iTouch).

This one was worth the time for me, but you did well in your description. It won't be for everyone.
I'm not sure I could follow up the "story" completely but I guess it is supposed to be open to interpretation or something.
