Just beat Black Ops on Regular.
At first, the story was very slow and uninteresting but after the 3rd or 4th mission the story quickly progressed and the story got very interesting. The storyline also introduces a new "EndGame" scenario which is much needed. Every other game focuses on a nuclear apocalypse or an EMP but this game introduces chemical warfare. The story is also scary because it seems so real. The developers kept using flashbacks to give the story detail and introduce (and kill off) very important characters. I never really felt bad about video games where I shoot Russians or terrorists because I didn't really connect with them. This game is sad because all the enemy soldiers are just regular guys and during cutscenes you can sometimes see a soldier disobey the inhumane orders that were given to him. Also at one point you have to kill British soldiers which was a big bummer for me. The ending got a little unrealistic however with (spoiler alert) huge underwater Cuban bases (Cubans can barely swim across the Gulf of Mexico so how can they build such a large underwater structure?) that you have to eradicate. After watching the sad ending and while you watch the credits, you feel a little scared because of the realism as well as sad for all the characters until you find yourself watching a cutscene of Kennedy, McNamara, Nixon, and Castro laughing and drinking together in the Pentagon.
Overall, I would give this game's story a high rating. It's slow to start but once it does you won't want to put the controller down. The game introduces a new concept as well as keeps the player thinking. The game is what I call a "Thinker" much like the movies Shutter Island and Inception. It just makes you wonder....
