I wonder how this will affect our ability to play Dreamcast games in VGA on our TV's and computer monitors down the road. After all our current TV's and monitors won't last forever.

IMO retrogamers will always find a solution. There will always be adapters, converters and so on. I hope

Didn't know about this, but HDMI standard does makes sense. Shame about VGA drop for the older systems. 640x480 compatibility already shaky when LCD HDs took over.

I'm sure the MPAA loves this decision.

Concerning the VGA support has been going for over 20 years, that is quite a feat, similar to the BIOS boot-up for every PC.

Yeah, with the latest HDTV's, you will notice the limitation for VGA, heck I am planning to play PS2 and DC games on a smaller TV (<32"), as most games on both don't even have Widescreen display.

I suspect it has as much to do with pressure from the movie industry to eliminate analog display technologies as it has to do with the technical reasons cited in the article. Digital has advantages, but so does analog--fewer issues due to firmware incompatibility, etc. I do support for a digital TV/Internet/phone provider, and it's downright disgusting how many random, mysterious, intermittent "my picture keeps freezing" issues go away just by switching the customer to component instead of HDMI.

We are trading a standardized open format (VGA) for a still-evolving proprietary format (HDMI). I think proprietary formats stink! Long live VGA!
