Gaming parents: how do your kids feel about your gaming?

When I was a kid, as I am sure most of you went through, when I wanted a new game I would basically have to beg my parents since I obviously didn't have any money. So logically, games came twice a year, birthday and Christmas, so I what I got is what I had to be thankful for and enjoy.

But for a parent who is an active gamer, it must be so weird to not have to go through those trials and tribulations of having your kids beg you for games because you are already buying them for yourself at all times during the year.

Do they enjoy the fact that they get to game with you too?

My kid is only 2 so a lot of you questions dont apply quite yet, but it sounds like I grew up in a similar household as you when it came to gaming. I'm sure it'll be the same with any other hobby/interest you child gets into as it was for you with gaming. I wont be getting my son new cell phones (or whatever the kids are into these days) every couple months. He'll have to wait or help pay for them.

Anyway here is how a "real" underage gamer uses his arcade stick. Notice he is holding it right side up (no offense intended Dsheinem).

LOL. Now picture some dad comes barging into his twelve-year old's bedroom with a copy of "Gears of War" and yells "I found this in the Xbox 360 with a bunch of game saves and DLC. Who the fuck taught you how to play this?" And the kid replies "You, alright! I learned it by watching you!!"

I've got 3 kids, the eldest is 10 and she is into games like I am. The games that she likes to play are things like Stlye Boutique or other low frustration games, although she love to watch me play all manner of games.

The others are too young really to play, although they doesnt stop them from trying. My youngest, Oliver who is 3, loves sonic 4 and is getting a grip on being able to make sonic do what he wants.

I often wonder if they are all genuinely interested in games, or whether its because they are interested in me and therefore interested in what they see me doing.

I know what you are saying about buying games though, my kids have no such problem with bugging me for games, although I steer them away from the new release games I'm more than happy to help them choose new games that they would like. A far cry from the experience I had with my parents.
