Haha, I'm 18. I was only 7 when it was big in my town, then everyone stopped pretty much as soon as I started.

I stayed with it for 11 years though, they might have gone three months. Maybe.

As it has been said HG/SS just has more than any other version. More places to go, more people to talk to, more moves, more strategies, more everything that makes the game good.

Pokemon has also developed a very interesting competitive side. Lots of pokémon, lots of moves and how you train affects how you play a lot. You have 512 Effort values that you obtain depending on the pokemon you battle, each 4 Effort values is 1 stat point so you can beat your friend's Pikachu with your own if you try to get a speed advantage that way or just tweak the stats of the pokemon to suit the role you want to in your team.

EVs are really only important in the metagame/tourney play though. Also, UU is far more fun than OU, since OU consists of the same 10 pokemon over and over.

Not really; I, and many others, like to throw in some Pokemon that aren't even in OU. Milotic and Clefable can work very well in OU if you use them correctly; I also use some Pokemon that aren't seen too often. And I'm not telling you my team if that's what you want. :P

According to Smogon there's 48 OU pokémon and 10 Borderline ones. There's 52 Pokémon in UU so it's similar. I have played both and I like both metagames.

That also doesn't count Pokémon that are not rare but very team specific.

Generally fully-evolved pokemon are put into Tiers according to strength, similar to fighting games. The top tier is Uber, which consists of most Legendaries, Wobbuffet, and Garchomp. Below that is OU, or Overused. These are stronger, and consist of pokemon like Blissey and Machamp. Borderline are between OU and UU, and is the smallest group. Examples include Crobat, Gallade, and Porygon-Z. UU, or Underused, are pokemon that aren't bad, but aren't as good as the upper tiers. Examples include Steelix, Lanturn, and Moltres. Then there's NU, or Never Used, which is the lowest tier used in competitive play. Most of these range from alright (Ampharos, Electrode) to Terribad (Spinda, Luvdisc). The only tier below that is NFE, Not Fully Evolved
