Here's my take on it.

They're going to be torn apart and sold for complete scrap. The plastic case on the carts alone is worth money when melted down. Not to mention the silicon can be pulverized and re-used for new chips, and the metal can be electrostatically removed in mere seconds then melted down en-mass.

You didn't link us to a competitor to GameStop, you've linked us to a service designed to murder our games for profit. Personally, I'll take my games to a real retailer, local shop or sell them to someone who will actually enjoy them.

Newer games such as PS2, Gamecube, Original Xbox and newer will be saved the kill as they can still be resold for profit but retro is worthless to the mainstream. Remember people, no matter how large we think we are the retro gaming community is still young, growing and out of the mainstream for the most part. A massive corporation seeking large profits and accounting to it's stockholders needs more than just a dedicated small fanbase.

Basically until retro gaming is as popular as collecting vinyl records, buying antiques or some other once obscure hobby that's become popular and profitable then it's always walking on very thin ice with services like this and a chance to erase the opportunity for someone to enjoy it in the future.

Yeah it's a bit brash sounding and I may have read too far into it, but I just enjoy having the ability to say others will get to enjoy what I did as well.

I think you are right, changed the title. The resale to store to resale to customer won't happen.

Wal-Mart has already commented on the new kiosks (which I'm assuming haven't gone nationwide yet), saying that if the pilot program is a success, they'll start providing actual Wal-Mart credits instead of just a charge back.

Competetion for Gamestop. Competetion good to keep all retailers on their toes.

Looks like Best Buy doing another attempt into buying your used games. A question of recycle or resale? Target, Toys R Us and maybe Walmart might also offer trade ins? My guess because of the profit margin, only current generation games might get resold.
